"Pretty Girl, I got you a cheeseburger and chocolate shake," Rudy announced as he and the boys returned from the airport food court. "Fries? There are fries, right?" Evaline questioned as she nursed Cara in the airport lounge.
"Of course I got fries," he told her pulling them out of the bag and feeding her one. "Thank you," she told him, "If you lean them against my leg I can eat them while I'm feeding her."
The group had taken a shuttle to the airport that morning from the hotel they'd stayed in the night before. After checking all of their luggage, getting their boarding passes, and making it through security the boys had gone down and gotten food for everyone while they camped out waiting for their flight in the airport lounge.
Evaline was exhausted after dealing with a fussy Cara most of the night. The baby didn't seem to like the hotel crib. Thankfully she'd slept through most of the chaotic morning and had only just woken up after the boys left for food.
"Is she close to being done?" Rudy asked as he unwrapped his cheeseburger. Humming Evaline checked her phone, "Probably another ten minutes and then I'll pull her off to burp her," she told him.
"I'll take her and burp her then so you can eat," he told her biting into his own burger.
"Best daddy and husband ever," she laughed, winking at him.
With Rudy busy walking the baby around Evaline had a chance to eat the rest of her food before he brought her back to nurse on the other side. "You look ready to fall asleep eating that burger," Maddie commented as she idly scrolled through her phone.
Yawning Evaline nodded, "Cara didn't like the hotel crib last night. I hope she sleeps on this flight because mommy needs a nap."
"Well once we're in the air I can help keep her occupied if she doesn't so you can sleep," Maddie offered. "Have I ever told you you're one of my favorite humans?" Evaline told the girl as she laughed.
"I think someone is still hungry," Rudy announced coming back with a crying Cara. Taking the baby Evaline situated her on the other breast to finish feeding while Rudy fixed the privacy blanket over her shoulder.
"So when we get there are we dumping our luggage and then heading to the beach?" he asked her. "Hell yeah," Evaline laughed.
It was almost a half an hour later when they were finally able to board their flight. Once she was settled next to Cara in her car seat Evaline was thankful they'd paid for a separate seat in order to keep her in her car seat. Rudy and Elaine were across the aisle from her with Chase and Maddie in back of her and Drew and Austin in front of Rudy and Elaine.
It took close to forty five minutes to finally get in the air and as the baby sucked on her pacifier Evaline leaned back against the seat closing her eyes.
Hearing Cara cry Evaline's eyes flew open to Rudy standing in the aisle leaning over her attempting to reach the baby next to her and Maddie leaning over the back of the seat shushing the baby, "What are you doing?" Evaline questioned. "Trying to keep her from waking you up," Rudy replied as he straightened up and sat back down in his seat.
"Sorry I couldn't quite reach her to unstrap her," Maddie told her.
"That's okay. How long was I out?" she asked unstrapping the baby. "About three and a half hours," she told her, "She fell asleep almost as soon as you did."
"Do you think they have a changing table in their bathroom?" she asked Rudy handing him the baby before reaching under Cara's seat for the diaper bag. "Well let's find out," he said, hitting the button to call the flight attendant.
