SEVENTEENTH
Eze’s heart is pounding like crazy. This is it... the moment he’s been waiting for. He patiently waited outside a classroom in the ComSci building until he finally saw her, the girl in the pictures he’s been looking at for more than a month now... Sophie Manansala.
“Excuse me,” harang ni Eze sa dadaanan ng babae nang dumaan ito sa harap niya.
Nang iangat ni Sophie ang tingin niya sa lalaking nasa harapan ay unti-unting nawala ang kunot sa noo niya pati na ang inis niya. Meeting Hezekiah Fraire’s green eyes this close is absolutely one of the few breathtaking moments in her entire life.
“Hi, I’m Eze. You’re Sophie, right?” pagpapakilala ni Eze at tumango ang dalaga sa tanong niya. Eze stared at Sophie’s green eyes for a second before continuing to speak.
“I guess you already know Don, the—”
“—private investigator,” putol ni Sophie kay Eze kaya tumangu-tango ang huli.
“So, may hinahanap kang... babae? Tama ba?” simula ni Sophie ng usapan at nagsimula nang maglakad kaya sumunod sa kaniya si Eze.
“Yes. I’ve been searching for years and thank God you agreed to talk to me,” sagot ni Eze na nakapagpangiti kay Sophie.
Napangiti si Sophie dahil masaya’t kinikilig siya. When the investigator approached her, she really didn’t want to get involved but the investigator mentioned Hezekiah Fraire and that’s the sole reason why she agreed to it. Don mentioned something about Eze searching for a girl. Sophie’s about 99% sure that she’s not the girl Eze’s looking for as she doesn’t even know any Hezekiah Fraire before she entered SMU two years ago but there’s no harm in trying, right? Especially because she thinks there’s a possibility that this encounter might be the way for her to get closer to Hezekiah Fraire. She has only seen pictures of Eze when she entered SMU and she didn’t even know he was coming back to the university but now that he is and he wants to talk to her because he thinks she’s someone he knows, Sophie thinks that there’s nothing wrong with taking this opportunity to get known by him.
“I’m happy to help,” nakangiting sagot ni Sophie kaya napangiti rin si Eze.
“I’m going to ask you some personal questions, is that okay?” paninigurado ni Eze at sinulyapan ng tingin ang dalaga.
“You can agree now and not answer some questions if you feel like they’re too invasive or confidential,” dagdag pa ni Eze.
“Alright,” sagot ni Sophie kaya pinasunod na siya ni Hezekiah nang mauna na itong maglakad.
Sumakay sila sa sasakyan ni Eze at todo tago si Sophie ng saya’t kilig niya. Looking straight at Eze’s eyes, walking and talking with him, and now riding his car? This must be the best day of her life so far. Almost everybody likes Hezekiah Fraire. He’s not cocky like some of the handsome guys in the university, he’s actually very kind and humble. Some girls prefer the womanizer type like Hayden Gray Del Fierro, some like the rugged and harsh kind like Skyler De Valle, others like the joker and playful ones like Kaius De Valle, the pretty boy type like Seamus Gray Del Fierro, the shy and good boy kind of guy like Pete De Valle, or the super smart and kind type like Lucas Del Fierro but for Sophie, Hezekiah Fraire is the best kind of guy. He’s not too soft yet not so tough either, he’s not super smart but he’s streetwise and does well academically—as what Sophie thinks, just the right type kind of guy.
Sandali lang ang biyahe at hininto rin ni Eze ang sasakyan sa parking lot ng isang coffee shop. Pumasok sila sa loob at um-order ng inumin si Eze bago umupo sa tapat ni Sophie.
