Ch. 76 Truths Revealed

A hand covered my mouth before I could scream.

"Don't make a sound," Dabi whispered from behind me. "He'll catch him."

I hadn't noticed him even on the roof, but there was Hawks, running and then flying off the side of the building toward Shoto. I hadn't seen him before and I hardly saw him now as he flew so incredibly fast. 

I breathed a sigh of relief. Hawks will catch him. Shoto will be okay. 

I pulled Dabi's hand off my mouth and turned around. "What are you doing?" I hissed.

"I thought shit might go south, so I had the bird get me up here. Looks like I was right."

"You knew...You knew Shigaraki might do that to Shoto?"

"Why do you think I had Hawks come with me up here in the first place? I'm not a total monster. Getting thrown off the building will be the best thing that's happened to that kid. Hawks will get little Shoto to safety and away from these crazies."

I couldn't help but stare at Dabi, surprised by what I was hearing. "So you do care."

Dabi shrugged. "I try not to make it a habit."

We both turned our attention to the five people still on the roof. Shigaraki, the three men, and Endeavor.

"I can't let Shigaraki do this, Dabi. I'm sorry. I know you don't care or agree but... I can't."

Dabi sighed. "I was afraid you were going to say that."

"Huh?"

"Come on, time for our show to begin."

"What do you mean?"

Instead of answering, he pulled my head to his and our lips met. This kiss felt desperate, his lips rough on mine, his tongue aggressive. I tried to jerk back but he kept one hand on my neck, keeping me still.

When he finally allowed me to breathe, Dabi continued to hold me by my neck, his blue eyes staring deep into mine.

"I'm going to miss that," he said.

"What..." my mind was spinning. "What do you mean?"

"Endeavor!," Dabi shouted, stepping out from where we had been hiding, pulling me next to him by my neck.

All eyes turned to us.

Oh shit. What is he doing?

Dabi tightened his grip on my throat.

"Dabi," said Shigaraki, seeming surprised. "I thought you were waiting out front."

"You should have known I wouldn't miss this," Dabi said.

Shigaraki looked back and forth between the two of us. "No time to play with her right now," Shigaraki said, scratching at his neck. "I can't get through to Kurogiri. Try your phone."

"Sorry, but I'm a little busy right now," Dabi said.

He dragged me nearer to the rest of them. Now that we were closer I could see that they had also gagged Endeavor, which was why he hadn't said anything.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked, pulling at Dabi's fingers around my throat.

Dabi squeezed tighter, his hand warm on my neck. "It's best if you don't talk."

"At least we're all in one place," Shigaraki said, texting on his phone. "This has taken too long already."

I looked around for someone, anyone, anything, that might help right now. I watched in shock as  the three men who had been on the roof melted away. Clones? Had they been cloned by Twice?
