Ch. 115 Don't Worry, I'm Here Now

A few days ago...

"I'm not sure how much longer I can do this."

"Listen, take it from me, kid, sometimes you do what you have to do. It's not always going to be easy."

"I'm not asking for easy. I'm not actually asking for anything. I'm just telling you that I feel like I'm going to be found out, one way or another."

"You understand why you were given this assignment, right?"

"Yes, but... I came to you because I thought I could help. I didn't think it would end up like this. "

"Welcome to my world. This is what you wanted, right? Well, here it is. You have good instincts, kid, I'll give you that. You're smart. You saw this opportunity and now think of all that we've gained thanks to you."

"And all that I've lost. I feel like it's already cost me so much. If anything were to happen..."

"You can't think about that. We're counting on you...

Back to the present...

Hand in hand, Dabi and I walked back into the room where Hawks and Toga were waiting on us. They were still at the same table, a few more drinks around them than when we'd left.

Once at the couch, Dabi wrapped his arms around my waist and his big hands pulled me into his lap. I leaned back against him and let him hold me, letting myself enjoy this tenderness, especially after how rough he'd been only minutes earlier.

Dabi's fingers toyed with my shirt, his hand going up under the hem and resting flat against my skin. "You don't really hate the things I got you, do you?" he asked.

"I hate them as much as you hate me."

He chuckled. "I sort of hate this though," he said, touching my necklace. "It's not you at all."

"It's not? I'm not like a kitten?"

"Hardly."

"But you're so good at making this kitty purr, Dabi."

He grinned back at me. "Still, there's no way you picked this out for yourself."

"Now that you two apparently got that out of your system," Hawks said, looking at us and smiling, "can we all be friends again?"

"I liked it better when they were mad at each other," Toga said. She tossed me my bra to put back on and stood up. "If you're going to hog y/n, Dabi, I'm going to go find someone else."

"No, don't go!" I said, reaching for her.

"Fine! You convinced me!" Toga walked over to me and Dabi, climbing onto the couch with us and sitting on the other side of him. He leaned back to make room and wrapped an arm around each of us.

"You guys are making me feel lonely," Hawks complained. "Dabi, come hold me, too."

"You wish," Dabi scoffed. He turned to Toga. "You can stay if you don't try to cut me."

"But that's no fun," she pouted. "Dabi, dance with me. Let's make y/n jealous. She gets petty and sexy when she's jealous."

Toga grabbed his hand and pulled him off the couch. I had to laugh a little as she started dancing around him while Dabi just stood there looking at her like she was crazy.

"So, baby bird," Hawks asked as he came over to sit next to me on the couch. "What do I get for bringing you here tonight and reuniting you with lover boy over there?"
