Our class stood awkwardly in the parking lot waiting for the bus to take us home; two of us trying to avoid making eye contact, the others avoiding the two of us who were trying to avoid making eye contact.
The one exception was Midoriya who seemed to be the only person who didn't feel the need to keep a safe distance from me at the moment. He was chipper as ever and seemed happy to sort of have my attention while I sulked around and tried to pretend like I wasn't paying attention to what Katsuki was doing.
"You missed seeing my new move yesterday," Deku told me.
"Oh yeah?" I said, half-listening. I was more interested in wanting to know why Katsuki was walking over to talk to Uraraka.
It was tough enough to try to watch the two of them without looking like I was watching them, much less also listen to whatever creepy thing Deku was about to say to me.
"I could show it to you later, if you want."
Why did she seem so excited to talk to him? Why would he go out of his way to talk to her? It's not like they were close friends or anything.
"So can I?" Deku asked.
Just for a second it looked like he had glanced over here at me.
"Yeah, okay, maybe."
"Really?" Deku asked excitedly. "I can meet you at your room when we get back."
Wait, what?
"My room?" I asked, wrinkling my nose. "Hold on. No. Why don't we meet at the gym or something? Maybe tomorrow. Or later. Maybe way later."
"Gym? No – Okay, so, I don't actually want to show you a new move. Well, I do, but not like that. I meant—"
"I knew it," I groaned, rolling my eyes. "You'd be cute if you didn't act like a little pervert."
"You think I'm cute?"
"When you're not being gross, yeah. And anyway, don't you like her?" I asked, pointing at Uraraka.
"And don't you like him?" he asked, pointing at Katsuki.
I felt my entire body tense up.
"And if you do," Deku continued, "why aren't you over there with him instead of her?"
"Deku," I tried to say calmly. "Are you prepared to die today? Because I am this close to killing you."
"Geez, you two belong together. And anyway I don't think you can. Your quirk isn't an attack-type, so without that physical ability, against me, you probably - "
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Please go away."
"But we are sitting together again on the way home, right?" he asked.
Thankfully, Shoto joined us right then, and I put my hand up to stop Deku before more words came out of his mouth.
"B-But I didn't even say anything bad!" Deku complained.
"You didn't have to."
"Y/n... but...but the trip is three hours long," he whined. "Please sit with me. It's going to be so boring otherwise."
"I'll sit with you, Midoriya," Shoto offered before I could elbow him in the side.
"Thanks, Todoroki, but... it's not the same. Where's Uraraka sitting?" he asked before going to talk to her.
"Your friend is a weirdo," I muttered after Deku left.
Behind Shoto I could see Uraraka and Katsuki still talking.
