The first week of school was coming to a close, and Katsuki still wasn't speaking to me. That wasn't going to work, since getting information from him would be crucial for my mission. He had first hand knowledge of several villains, and that was information I could use if I was going to help determine who the leak was. I doubted that the leak was Bakugo himself, but I didn't rule out his friends.
At lunch I walked over to the table where he was eating with some of the guys, and I squeezed myself in on the bench between him and Kirishima. "So are you going to talk to me or are we doing the silent treatment?" I asked Katsuki.
He slowly turned to face me. Katsuki didn't answer but his red eyes narrowed on me, glaring. I'm pretty sure the glare was scarier than anything he could have yelled at me though.
"Real mature. Anyway," I said getting up to go, "text me later."
"You guys text? Already?" I heard Kaminari ask.
"Hey, y/n, don't go" piped up Kirishima. "Ignore him – want to eat lunch with us?"
"I'm not sure that's a good idea right now given... all of that..." I said, gesturing in Bakugo's direction. "But I appreciate the offer. Maybe tomorrow?"
"You got it!" Kirishima said smiling back at me.
"Y/n, if you want to talk one on one, we could get together later, maybe I can give you ideas for some new support items," Kaminari said.
"I'd love that. I can give you my number and - "
"All of you shut the fuck up," interrupted Bakugo, standing up and leaving the table.
"What's his problem?" asked Sero after Bakugo had walked away.
"I don't know," said Kirishima shrugging, "but he doesn't seem that different from a normal day."
"Fair point," said Sero.
"So your number was...?" asked Kaminari.
"Sorry, we can talk about it later. Gotta go," I said, running off to find where Katsuki went.
I caught up with him in the hallway. "Dude, can we talk?" I asked.
I knew I would be in trouble if I reported back that one of the students at the top of the class was avoiding me. Plus, I honestly just wanted to talk with him. I didn't like that he was mad at me.
"Look, I'm sorry," I said. "The other night was... fun... well, what little time we had together was." I had to think fast to come up with a lie. "It just scared me, that's all, since everything was moving so fast so that's why I asked you to leave." I tried my best to look shy and innocent and hoped he believed that.
"Whatever. You kicked me out of your apartment for a phone call."
So that didn't work.
"Listen to me closely," he growled, pointing a finger at me. "I don't have time for games. I'm going to act like Saturday didn't happen and I expect you to do the same. Write down whatever you want for your stupid support course but that's as far as this is going to go." With that he stomped off down the hall.
"So you'll still text me later?" I yelled after him.
"So annoying," I heard him mutter.
As everyone changed into gym uniforms for the afternoon class, the girls wanted to hear the details about what happened at lunch.
"I saw Bakugou stomp off and you run after him, what was that about?" Ochaco asked me.
"Who knows..." I said, not wanting to say too much about what had happened between Katsuki and I at my apartment.
"Don't worry about it, y/n, he's like that with everyone," said Ochaco.
"Did you know him before starting school?" Momo asked me.
"Only accidentally. He almost broke my ankle one day in the park by my apartment." I wasn't lying, I just wasn't telling the whole truth.
"Sounds about right," Tsu chimed in.
"Y/n, do you have a quirk?" Mina asked.
"Nope," I said. The girls looked a little uncomfortable. "It's fine, guys. That's why I'm in the support course. I'll get to help all of you do awesome things." I smiled to reassure them that I meant it. I was speaking the truth; I hoped that my work for the agency would enable them to be the heroes they were meant to be.
Once everyone was ready, we assembled at the simulation area outside. I brought my backpack with me in case they let me use support items, if everyone else was using their quirk.
For the afternoon lesson, Midnight was in charge. "Okay, everyone," she said, "get with your regular groups. Y/n, join with Todoroki and Midoriya. Mineta, switch so you're with Sero and Shoji and not Mina and Momo this time."
"Hallelujah," I heard Mina whisper, making me giggle.
Midnight explained the directions to the class. "Today we're playing hero/villain hide and seek! With a twist! In your groups of three, each of you will draw a card. Two cards will say hero, and one card will say villain. Do not let your teammates know which card you drew.
"All three of you will be starting in different places. Heroes, your job will be to capture the villain with these handcuffs I'll give you. Villains, you win if you capture at least one hero. But unless you are the villain, you won't know which of your teammates is the villain and which is the hero. You'll have to think critically through this exercise as you figure out who you can trust."
Each student was given a backpack with a pair of handcuffs for apprehending the villains. Calling me over to her, Midnight reminded me that I could use support items to help even the playing field. I nodded, but what exactly was she expecting? She had just put me in a group with two of the strongest students in the class. I was pretty much toast. I grabbed a couple things from my own backpack, but overall my game plan was to try to hide and see if I could hold out longer than them.
Everyone went inside to watch on the big screens as the first team got started.
