"Shoto, it looks like you're going to learn something from me today after all. Here's the truth: women cannot be trusted."

Todoroki listened with disgust.

"She was trying to do something good, for us. How do you just toss someone aside like that? If someone doesn't measure up, that's what you do?"

"I had expectations for her, and they weren't met. That's all there is to it," Endeavor said.

"If my friend was kidnapped by villains because of you..."

"You'll what, son? You'll what? I know you aren't threatening me."

"Heroes are supposed to protect people, father, not put them in harms way and then abandon them."

Endeavor didn't answer his son. His flames stopped and he sat back down at desk calmly.

"Since you think you know everything," Endeavor said, "do you know what she said to me? The last time I spoke to her?"

Todoroki shook his head.

"She said, 'Shoto's more of a hero than you'll ever be.' She said that to me. Of course you'll be the best, but who was she to pass judgment on me? I own her."

"You what? I don't understand."

"That's why I'll explain it to you. Y/n had it so easy. I gave her everything. I got her into your school, I paid for her apartment and food and clothes. If it wasn't for me, she would have been living on the streets, or worse."

"You gave her your credit card."

"Exactly! So was loyalty and respect too much to ask? I honestly think she got too attached. Or maybe too used to the lifestyle. She needed to learn her place. She never seemed to completely understand who was in charge. Her sleeping with Hawks and Eraserhead was just the last straw, when I had told her that I was the only one who owned her. Women, Shoto, you can't trust them. You give them everything and they still turn on you."

The more his father spoke, the sicker Todoroki felt. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"You're saying that you... that she...in exchange for..."

"As I said, there's no reason for you to worry about what happens to her. Your friend was basically a prostitute. She probably just got what was coming for her."

Todoroki didn't believe him. "How can you say that? Heroes protect people."

"I tried that. I told you I gave her everything. But don't worry, I fully intend to get revenge on the ones who took her. If something is mine, it stays mine. They don't get to mess with my property and live to joke about it."

"Your property? You sound insane. I'm leaving."

This time Shoto opened the door before his father had a chance to shut it. He heard Endeavor still speaking behind him.

"Oh and thank you for the tip about Hawks. I'll deal with him later."

Trying to process all of this information, Todoroki let the door slam behind him and walked up the stairs to his bedroom. He walked straight out the door onto his balcony, a place that used to be where he did his best thinking growing up. As a child, when things got too heated, literally, inside, he could go outside on his balcony and simply breathe for a moment.

Sometimes his brother would join him, but that was all before...

His next thought was to call Midoriya. But what would he say? He wasn't confident that any of this could be said over the phone. And some of this probably didn't need to be shared with anyone.

When he looked out into the trees of his backyard, he saw something very strange.

Oddly enough, there was Midoriya himself, climbing up the tree that was right by Todoroki's balcony.

Todoroki looked down at him, completely confused. "What are you doing here, Midoriya?"

"Todoroki! I heard you were coming home today. I figured you'd be talking to your father about y/n disappearing, and I thought you might need some support."

"I was about to leave. Why didn't you just use the front door?"

"Um....Knock on the door of the number one hero's house? N...no way could I do that...."

"Hang on." Todoroki climbed over to the tree himself, soon joining Midoriya on the ground. "Let's go. We can walk back to the station and catch a train back. I don't want to even give him the satisfaction of knowing I left."

"Everything okay?" Midoriya asked.

"No."

Midoriya didn't pry further.

They walked in silence, Todoroki's head spinning.

This relationship between y/n and his father...no way that was true. Right? From what he'd say, it sounded like his father had been keeping her like a bird in a cage. And now, like a spoiled child who was tired of his toy, he'd thrown it out, but still didn't want anyone else to play with it.

If only he could talk to her.

They'd walked a couple blocks when Todoroki's phone buzzed. He took it out of his pocket to see who it was.

This was odd.

It said Midoriya was calling.

But Midoriya was walking here next to him.

None of this made sense.

Todoroki looked from his phone to the person walking beside him and back again.

Midoriya noticed him looking and smiled.

"Sorry, cutie, but you can't answer that."

Todoroki felt a sharp pain in his side and then everything went black.
