Ch. 126 Angry Angry Angry

I didn't know where I was walking, but I was walking somewhere other than there. I started down the sidewalk heading toward the gym. The way my adrenaline was pumping, I felt like I could run a couple laps and still have energy to burn.

Burn. Maybe I should call Dabi. He hadn't betrayed me, in awhile at least, and I knew he could help me burn some of this anxious energy off in a way that would be a lot more fun than running laps in a gym.

Before I had time to think more on that, Hawks moved fast to catch up with me and walk by my side. I glared over at him, and he held up his hands as if surrendering.

"Pretend I'm not here."

"Right. Because you blend in so well." I sighed. "I am so mad at him and I will gladly take it out on you, so watch out."

"So I heard when he called me just now. Listen, kid, I don't think you have the whole story," Hawks said. "You could be a little kinder to Shinso, you know. If you could calm down a little, I think you would realize that you actually have a lot in common. I know it's been tough on him."

"Oh yeah, it's real tough to track someone like a freaking stalker. You knew about this too, didn't you?"

"I kind of figured something like that was going on," Hawks admitted. "But you don't mind when Shigaraki tracks you? Playing favorites, hm?"

"Because he is upfront about it. There's no hiding it. I hate all this hiding..."

"You're one to talk."

"Shut up, Hawks. Leave me alone."

"Look, kid," he said, trying to stop me from walking past him. "We need to have a grown up talk."

"I'm so mad right now, at him, at everybody. I don't want to talk about anything."

"Then I'll talk. Important things first. If what Shinso told me is true, I'm putting an end to you doing whatever the hell you're doing during the week." 

I stopped walking.

"You're not being safe and that ends now. Literally every major hero is working on capturing this guy and you're over here ditching school to chill at his place? No ma'am."

"You're not my father, or my boyfriend, and you don't even know what you're talking about. And why are you talking with Shinso? I didn't know that you knew each other like that."

"See – you're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about."

"Then fucking tell me! I'm so tired of secrets! I thought we were past all that!"

Hawks looked thoughtful for a moment. "I guess it's time you knew the whole truth."

"Yes! Please! Start talking."

He pointed to one of the benches on the sidewalk. "You should probably sit down."

"You have to be fucking kidding me."

"Just do it, okay?"

With a huff, I sat, ready to hear this.

"Shinso came to me just after you were kidnapped by the League," Hawks began. "He told me that Overhaul's people had reached out to him in the past and that he had thought of a way to get intel on their organization and potentially help you at the same time. We came up with this idea of him asking them to help find you as an excuse for him to contact Overhaul in the first place. I, of course, knew we didn't need them for that really, since you were safe and sound anyway. They fell for it and he's been giving us information about the Shie Hassakai for the past couple months. In exchange I'm going to help him out when he graduates."
