No matter how close Shoto held me, my body continued to shake, thinking back on the wild look in Dabi's eyes and the flames that had leapt from his hands.
What if Dabi came back?
What if someone else from the League came to find me instead?
What the hell had just happened?
Burying my face in Shoto's chest, I said, "I don't want to go home."
"You could come with me to my house. My sister is probably the only one there since my dad is never home."
"NO." I said, maybe too loudly.
"Okay," Shoto said, looking me over. "We'll figure something out. Are you injured?" Using his ice, he slowly felt up and down my arms, soothing the sore spots.
Turning my hands over, I saw that the burns were still there, not as bad as they were originally, but my body hadn't healed them totally. The heat had been much worse than what Shoto had used when we were training, so maybe it just took longer depending on the severity. Thankfully my arm felt weak but it wasn't broken.
Shoto touched my face, the coolness of his hand tingling my skin. "Does this hurt?" he asked, as he felt where Endeavor had hit me. Of all the injuries, why wouldn't this one heal? Maybe I didn't want it to. In some ways, it felt like a badge of honor. I had stood up to him. Taken control.
"Not anymore," I answered.
"I want to know what happened, but more than that, I want to get you out of here. Can you walk?"
"Yes," I said, standing up with his help. "Can you walk me home? I think I'll be okay after that."
"I'm not leaving you there by yourself."
"Shoto..."
"I'm staying with you. You can't change my mind."
I smiled reluctantly. "Okay."
Back at my apartment, I changed clothes and laid down on my bed, letting Shoto wrap some bandages around my wrists. While he worked, my mind raced about what had just happened. It had been a set up. I didn't understand by who or how, but I knew that something shady and dangerous had been set up for me. I needed time to process and think it all through, but truthfully all I felt like doing was going to sleep.
Shoto finished his work, put up the remaining bandages and then sat next to me at a respectful distance on the other side of the bed.
"Do you want to talk about what happened?" he asked me.
"Not really." Not that there was anything I could tell him anyway.
"Can you at least tell me if we need to go to the police?" he asked, lying down next to me.
"We don't."
"You're sure? I saw the way you were shaking. You were scared. That fear doesn't come from nothing. You don't have to take everything on you by yourself, you know. Maybe I can help."
"I think the best thing I can do right now to help is go to sleep," I said, rolling over to face the wall.
I heard him move on the bed, and then Shoto wrapped his arms around me from behind, spooning me. I rolled over to face him and touched our foreheads together.
"Shoto, I am a mess. It wouldn't be fair to you if..."
"I know. Y/n... Sometimes people just need someone to be there. So I'm here. As long as you need me."
That was all I needed to hear. I scooted back into his nook, letting the weight of his chest against my back, Shoto's warmth and safety, lull me to sleep.
