A couple hours later a black sports car pulled up with windows tinted so dark I couldn't see in.

"Damn, you must have driven fast to get here this quickly," I said as I opened the door.

Dabi smirked when he saw me. "To see my girl? Of course I did."

"You haven't seen me in what, a couple days? Life must be hard," I teased.

"It is when you won't send me any nudes."

"Isn't in person better?" I asked, sitting down and closing the door.

As soon as the door shut Dabi put his hand behind my neck and roughly pulled me across the seat close to him. Instead of kissing me, however, he swerved, his mouth right by my ear.

"Mine," he growled.

A chill went down my spine at his words. It didn't seem like the moment to correct him.

"But you're in trouble, princess."

I pulled back. "Me? What did I do?"

"Can I get the aux?" This voice from the backseat made me jump. "And are you two done yet? Because we have things we need to talk about."

"Holy hell, that scared me," I said, trying to breathe. I turned around to see Hawks in the backseat. I had no idea how I didn't notice him there right away. "Why am I not surprised that you're tagging along? Couldn't you just fly or something?"

Hawks smiled at me. "You're looking hot as usual, kid."

"And you're looking sketchy as usual."

Hawks didn't lose that smile. "Not any sketchier than you."

He really did look kind of weird though. Something was off but I couldn't quite figure out what. Something in his eyes? Maybe his wings? It was hard to tell, and I certainly wasn't here to try to figure it out.

I turned my attention back to Dabi who was already driving us out of the parking lot. "Why'd you bring the bird? I'm not completely complaining but I am curious."

Dabi snorted. "He needed babysitting apparently."

Hawks ignored that and leaned forward to talk to me. "When you called Dabi here, it was the perfect opportunity for a road trip. And he said we're getting something to eat, so I'm down."

Now that I looked in the back seat, I saw more than a few snack wrappers and open bags of chips. Hawks noticed me looking, my eyes making contact with his. His pupils were large, his eyes red.

"I can't stop eating," he admitted. "I'm so hungry."

"Ew."

"At least keep my car clean, asshole," Dabi muttered.

"And... when did you last sleep?" I asked.

"Uh... two days ago? I don't know. But now I'm here!"

"Awesome," I said with no small amount of sarcasm.

"I needed the distraction," Hawks added, "and I wanted to talk to you before Monday anyway, in case you had planned on continuing your little extracurriculars with your mob boss boyfriend."

"Oh... I..." I looked to Dabi to figure out whether or not he already knew.

Dabi did not look amused as he drove. His fingers gripped the wheel, and he didn't even glance my way as he spoke. "He told me."

I sighed. "Of course he did."

"That night when you left with Overhaul, you told me you were going to handle it," Dabi said, his voice low. "But Hawks says you've been with Overhaul quite a bit these past few weeks. You have some explaining to do."
