I felt numb.

I didn't know what to say. My insides were twisted into a mess of chaos, and I felt like I couldn't breathe or make words come out of my mouth.

None of this made sense.

In a room of blood and gore, Shinso leaned against the back wall, his hands in his pockets sheepishly.

"How could you?" I whispered, horrified.

Shinso wouldn't even make eye contact with me.

Overhaul sat down in the chair next to me, looking like he was planning on just having a friendly conversation, despite the fact that both of us were caked in blood splatter. If anything, he seemed like a curious spectator, watching this drama play out between the two of us.

"Shinso," I said, standing up and going to him. "Look at me. What have you done?"

"Organizations have approached me before. My quirk... there are people who see its usefulness."

"Yeah – like me. And Aizawa."

"Aizawa is the last person I trust right now."

"Fine, forget him, I also mean apparently all of UA now. You finally got a transfer to the hero course. What were you thinking?"

"I guess I thought I would never be a hero. I thought that school would end and where would I be? Everyone else had jobs lined up, but me? I had nothing."

"That's not true. Even before you joined the hero course, you had me."

Shinso's purple eyes finally met mine.

"Oh. Right. You."

The sharpness of his voice made me take a step back. I'd never heard that tone from him directed toward me.

"Because that was working out so well. Do you not remember our last conversation? You told me in no uncertain terms that it was over. And then you walked back to camp and cuddled up with Todoroki."

"Shinso, that was because the night before..."

"As if I hadn't already been wondering if you would ever look at me the way you look at Bakugo."

That one felt like a stab in the heart.

"Shinso, listen, that's different..."

"And then to find out you were with a man like Endeavor," he grimaced.

"You know he's a piece of shit! It wasn't a competition. It never was."

"But it was and I was losing. When you went missing, I remembered that I had this organization's contact info still. I reached out and they agreed to help me find you."

"You didn't need to do that!"

"I see that now. Look, I'm not proud of it. But I did this for you. To save you. To show you I could take risks for you. You've never done something you weren't proud of, just for the sake of others?"

I was speechless, that question hitting a little close to home.

"But then it all worked out, and I'd already made this agreement. So here we are."

My eyes searched his face to understand.

For a moment we were both silent.

"Here we fucking are," I finally said.

And here is exactly where I did not want to be.

I turned back to Overhaul. "Okay, so, are we being held here?"

Overhaul seemed confused by my question. "No. I was wondering why you were still here, actually."

"Huh?"

He walked over to us. "My newest employee has what he wants, I have a new employee, so you can go now."

"I'm sorry," I said, "I've had an insane couple of days. Maybe I am misunderstanding. That's it? We can just, like, go home?"

"As fascinating as this has been to watch, you can continue your lover's quarrel some place else. You've seen what I'm capable of. Shinso knows as well. I have no doubt that you'll be discreet about all of this. Shinso, you know when and where to report."

Unbelievable. He was really going to be working for this man.

Shinso and I exchanged an uneasy look and then we both walked toward the door.

Before I left, Overhaul touched my arm gently, but despite the lightness of the touch, I instinctively recoiled. "Please stay for a moment," he said to me, nodding to Shinso to indicate that he wanted to talk to me alone.

Shinso looked at both of us for a moment but then left the room and closed the door behind him.

He's leaving me alone with this guy, I realized as I watched him walk out.

"The boy's quirk is an exciting addition for us. I'm glad he's smart enough to seize a business opportunity when it's presented to him."

"I don't know what your business is, exactly, but Shinso is a hero," I responded. "He will be a hero."

"A revolting profession. You, on the other hand... Shinso told me that you can heal yourself. Obviously, that's intriguing to me, given my own quirk."

With one gloved finger, he traced a finger up and down my arm, making me shiver. I'd seen what he had done to the other man with just a touch on the arm.

"I'd like to explore that further," he said.

"You...uh.., would?" I shuddered to think of what 'exploring' might mean to this man.

"Yes. Under less disgusting circumstances," he added, looking around the room.

I knew I needed to say whatever I needed to say to get out of that room immediately.

"Right," was the best I came up with before quickly heading to the door.

Just as I started to open the door, I heard his voice again.

"One more thing."

My hand tensed around the door knob. I was afraid to turn around and look at him, afraid that my expression might say something I wasn't willing to say myself.

"I'd heard the League of Villains had added a healer."

Nope, not going to respond to that. I stayed right where I was.

"My sources tell me that Shigaraki is quite enamored with this healer and her...abilities."

Taking a deep breath, I summoned every bit of courage I had and turned around to face Overhaul.

"And?" I asked.

"Nothing," he shrugged, returning to his desk. "Just an interesting bit of information I wanted to share."

Leaving that room, I don't think I've ever closed a door faster.

Once out in the hallway, I grabbed Shinso's arm, pulling him with me. "I don't have a clue how to get out of here, but we are leaving now."

"I called for a taxi while you were in there. What did he say to you?"

"We can talk about that later. Right now let's go."

Shinso knew how to navigate the maze of hallways and soon we were getting in the taxi that dropped us off at Shinso's apartment building.

Once inside, before even turning on the lights, he pulled me to him, leaning down to kiss me in the dark. It had been a long time since our lips had connected like this, and our bodies remembered the familiar way we fit together.

He held me tightly to him after the kiss, pressing me against his chest. "You know I only agreed to all of that for you. You really are mine now, right?"

Looking up into those sad, sleepy eyes, knowing that he had potentially sacrificed his whole future for me, what else could I say?

"Yes, I'm yours."
