27 - I Dont Believe You

For a couple of days I stayed at Livi's apartment but then so her and James could have some time to themselves I stayed with Connor and Megan for a few nights. Neither of them minded because with Ben gone there's a spare room and James can't always be around so Livi has enjoyed the company and so have I considering we don't see each other much anymore and the same goes for Connor and Megan. Brad had tried calling me but I never picked up and every time he came round I refused to see him. Im still trying to get my head around the whole situation because its a lot to take in and I know its not Brad's fault as he says he had no idea but that still doesnt mean I'm going to be okay with it and just forget that fact he has a child with someone else.

"Livi are you sure its okay that im staying here again tonight?" I asked her as we sat in the kichen having breakfast.

"Of course it is, your always welcome here" she smiled.

"But I feel bad because I'm dumping all my problems on you when you probably just want some time to yourself"

"Honestly having you here is helping, its a distraction for me so it's nice to have you back"

"I'm so sorry about Ben, I know he means a lot to you so it must be hard to have him move away"

"It's nothing I haven't been through before" Livi shrugged.

"I bet its weird not having him around"

"Yes, very" Livi laughed.

"How are you coping without him?"

"Alright I guess" Livi shrugged, "James has been really sweet since he left and I'm not sure if its because he is happy hes gone or because he knows how hard this is for me but to be honest I dont care its just nice that hes there for me"

"He always will be Livi and I will too" I smiled and she smiled back.

"Katie!"

"Yeah?"

"You have to trust Brad and believe whatever he says"

"Im trying to believe him but its hard Livi, and what if i believe him and I was wrong too, what if it is his and he knew all along?"

"Then you talk to him about it and you figure something out, thats what you and Brad always do"

"I dont think this is something we can talk about though" I sighed.

"Katie listen to me" Livi said placing her hands on my shoulders, "everything is going to be okay, Ill be here when you need me and we will sort this out"

"Thanks Livi" I weakly smiled whilst pulling her into a hug.

"Katie I need to talk to you" I heard Brad shout from outside the apartment as he banged his fist against the door.

"Do you want me to get it?" Livi asked and I shook my head.

"Its okay, I've got it" I replied.

"Trust him" Livi said and I nodded.

"Livi I need to talk to her" Brad said as I began to open the door but once he could see that it was me his face lit up, I smiled at him and he smiled back before pulling me into a hug and I just burst into tears. I'd managed not too over the past few days but I couldn't hold it in any longer.

"Katie will you let me explain" Brad asked as he wiped the tears from under my eyes and I nodded.

"Im sorry Katie, I never planned for Emily to show up or for anything like this to ever happen and when it did I was just as shocked as you were so I'm not angry that you acted the way you did because I would of done the same. You have to believe me that before she showed up I had no idea about lily, I hadn't spoken to Emily in 5 years so how was I suppose to know. If I did I would of told you the moment I found out"

"I believe you Brad" I smiled, "and I'm sorry too, I should of listened to you instead of making assumptions"

"I think we are both guilty of that!"

"So what now?"

"I dont know, I guess we have to tell Emily that we dont believe her and see what she has to say"

"Wait what?"

"Well you believe that Lily isn't mine dont you?"

"No I said that I believe you knew nothing about her existing I never said I didn't think she wasnt yours"

"But shes not!"

"You dont know that Brad, we've already been over this!"

"What do you want me to do then Katie because if your not going to believe me then I don't know what else I can do?"

"I want to know the truth Brad!"

"Ive told you the truth Katie but you dont believe me!"

"I want to speak to Emily"

"What?"

"I said I want to speak to Emily!"

"Why?"

"Beacause I want some kind of proof as to whether you have a child or not"

"Is my word not enough?"

"I need proof Brad, solid proof"

"Alright fine, she's waiting in the car go ask her yourself!"

"Why is she in the car?"

"I was giving her a lift to the train station, is that a problem?"

"No" I sighed before heading out of Livi's apartment and outside to where Brad's car was parked.

"Emily I need you to tell me the truth" I said as i opened the car door.

"About what?" she asked getting out the car.

"Is she Brad's daughter?"

"Well umm, the thing is.."

"Its a yes or no answer"

"Ummm, no" she sighed.

"What?"

"Lily isnt brads daughter, I made it all up, I'm so sorry I never meant for this to get out of hand I thought that we would of just talked about it"

"Why? I asked, "why would you make something like that up?"

"Well I guess because..." Emily started to say but I cut her off.

"Forget it I don't want to know!"

"Katie I really am sorry"

"I dont care how sorry you are, I'm never going to forgive you for this"

"But..?"

"But nothing" Brad said as he walked over and stood beside me, "You've done enough, just leave before you make this any worse"

"Im sorry" Emily said before picking up her things and walking away.

"You probably hate me" I said to Brad as I turned to face him.

"I could never hate you" he smiled wrapping his arm around my side and placing a kiss on the top of my head.

"I didnt believe you when I should have"

"But I'm okay with that" Brad smiled.

"Im sorry"

"So am I"

"What if she's still lying to us?" I asked Brad.

"For now let's just assume that she isn't and that Lily really isn't mine"

"And if she is?"

"Neither of them are going to be a part of our lives ever again so it won't matter"

"Okay, I love you" I said as I looked up at Brad.

"I love you too" he replied.

We then headed back up to Livi and James' apartment so I could grab my things. James was now back and him and Livi were sat on the sofa watching TV.

"Is everything okay?" she asked me.

"Yeah, everything's great" I replied.

"Thanks Livi" I added once Id grabbed my bag from the spare room and she just smiled and nodded.
