Always been you - Shawn Mendes
Shawn's POV
December 2019I woke up with a buzz roaming my body and a tiny brunette wrapped around me. It was the last day of the tour, the last show of an overwhelming, mind blowing tour and I had mix feelings about it. I didn't want to stop playing for my fans, but I also needed a time out and some rest before the next album.
Camila had been feeling a bit better, all things considered and she insisted this was a day I should enjoy and focus on myself.
I was pretty happy and doing exactly what my girlfriend had told me, so I had no problem laying back and answering every single question I got asked at the q&a before the show. I didn't even flinch when they asked me about why it took me so long to tell Camila that I loved her.
The truth was that I had asked myself the same thing many times, but as our relationship moved forward I made peace with the missed opportunities and mistakes we made along the way. We had discussed that matter before and we both agreed we came together at the right moment in time. Things happened for a reason.
"...And she was like 'so I met this guy'", I gasped dramatically while my audience did the same. I could almost feel the ache in my chest once again while telling the story.
I knew Camila was too much for me then. She was completely in another level and out of my reach, otherwise I would've got my head out of the gutter sooner and set my feet on the ground on how I was feeling about her sooner, instead of prolonging the inevitable, because it was, in fact, inevitable. It had always been her.
"But I'm with her now", I shrugged and everyone cheered for me. I liked that they did that, that they were so enthusiastic about me and Camila being together. That really meant a lot.
I finished the last q&a on a high note, feeling the love from the people I had around. I did some vocal exercises and then changed while I waited for the show to start.
Camila stayed behind with her family when I left the hotel this morning and I couldn't wait to see her again. It was worse than when she was miles apart, because this time I knew it'd take just some minutes to be with her again.
"You look so cool", I told my sister when I ran into her and my dad on the hallway after getting my outfit.
My dad was on FaceTime with my mom, so I talked to her for a while but they were more fond of making fun of me for spending so much time with Camila. They all were surprised she wasn't next to me now. I played along with their jokes because they meant no harm. They had been rooting for us for so long that I thought they were just relieved I wasn't whining about it anymore.
I moved to checked on some other things around the venue until I got the text I was waiting for.
[I'm here], she said and I ran back to my dressing room where she was probably ushered.
"Easy, buddy", Zubin laughed at me when I passed him running on the hall.
Camila looked gorgeous and I felt my mouth instantly water with the sight of her. It didn't matter how many shows she had attended already, having her around when I performed the songs that I wrote about her always gave a little extra rush of energy.
"Hey, you look ready", she eyed me and beat her eyelashes at me.
"Oh I'm ready", I agreed and went to pick her up and kiss her like I had been dying to do.
"These kids", Cez, who was sat on the couch, sighed and laughed at us.
In retrospective, I could've been a bit more subtle with my affection given my dressing room was absolutely full of people from my team, family and friends that had flown for my last concert.
