You and Me - Lifehouse
Camila's POV
November 2019"You don't have to", Shawn said with his hands on the steering wheel, eyes focused on the road.
"I know, but I want to", I insisted taking a sip from the bottle of water I had brought from home.
"It can be addicting", he warned me and looked at me raising his eyebrows for a quick couple of seconds.
"I honestly don't think I'll get addicted to it, I never thought about getting a tattoo before".
"Why now?", he asked me.
"Because the phrase means a lot to me, it's the promise I made my mom. And... also, because you're going to be with me while I get it".
His smile shone on his face. I loved making him feel special, that's all I ever wanted, and that was exactly how he made me feel.
"I'll hold your hand", he promised me over dramatically because he had already told me the pain was minimal and pretty bearable.
"Thank you, baby", I said and rubbed the back of his neck and played with the curls falling over it.
I was a bit nervous but not too much. I never thought I was going to get something permanent on my skin. I never was a fan of tattoos. Not my own at least. But I was going to get something that actually meant something for me, a reminder that things get better, one way or another, so I was also excited.
I had been sizing the idea for a while, going over the pros and cons before saying anything to anyone else. Shawn was excited when I told him, he was addicted to tattoos and was happy that I'd join him. My mom was skeptical at first because she knew tattoos weren't my thing, but she completely understood when I told her what I wanted and ultimately gave me the official line. Sofi was actually waiting for a cooler design but she was fine with it anyways. And my dad, he loved me so much he didn't care if I was going to cover my entire face with a shark coming out of a helicopter that was on fire, he was on board no matter what.
"Ready?", Shawn asked me and offered me his hand before getting into the building.
"Yes", I said smiling to him.
God, I was head over heels for this guy.
"You look so cute by the way".
I looked down at my deer onesie and then back at my boyfriend.
"Thank you", I muttered softly, shyly and melting.
Anyone else would've made fun of me, but not him. Never Shawn. He was the one always keeping up with my shenanigans and rooting for me every step of the way, no matter how big, how hard, how silly or how crazy. He loved me for me and that was all I needed. He was seeing the best and worst of me since we started dating and here he was, as sure of his feeling as that day at brunch when he told me he was crazy about me and couldn't hide it anymore. I didn't know how I has gotten so lucky.
I held on to his neck and stood on my tiptoes to kiss him. His hand was placed firmly on my back while my world stopped for a while.
"C'mon", he grinned against my lips before walking towards the door.
"Ok", I agreed feeling how my body was still buzzing and floating.
"Hey man", Shawn greeted the tattoo artist with a hug and a big smile. "This is my girlfriend, Camila".
"Hi, welcome", he said.
The place was very sterile and everything was where it was supposed to be. I could see he was meticulous and I liked that, it made me feel safe.
