Almost is never enough - Ariana Grande, Nathan Sykes

Shawn's POV
May 2018

"Are you sure about this?", Andrew asked me once again.

"Yes, I'm sure. Plus, it's promo anyways", I told him shaking my head to let him know it wasn't such a big deal.

"Not the kind you like to have, that's why I'm asking", he said.

"Don't worry", I told him. "I know what I'm doing, it's going to be fine".

"Alright", he sighed and walked away while Tiffany worked on my suit for the Met Gala that I was attending this year with Hailey.

"I hope you know what you're doing", she said fixing the hem of my trousers.

"What can go wrong?", I said looking at her.

"You know fans will go crazy".

"When do they not?", I wondered out loud.

"Good point", she chuckled and focused back on her work.

No one on my team was totally on board with this but also no one actually tried to talk me out of it. I knew they were a bit worried of the outcome but they also trusted me. Hailey had been there for me more than once and I thought it was nice just to go with a friend. Things between us weren't just friendly obviously, but people didn't know that for sure, and they weren't going to, because we were under no circumstances saying anything about it. Hailey liked the speculation and she had said she enjoyed the attention so I just rolled with it. I didn't see anything wrong with that.

Camila's POV

"Wow", I said looking at the dresses of last night's Met Gala. I had been busy at the time of the event and I didn't have the chance to see the red carpet until now. The theme was gorgeous and I was in love with so many dresses.

"Look at them", my mom said while we took a look at Blake Lively, Rihanna, Zendaya, Emilia Clarke and many other artists that participated of the event.

"Amazing", I agreed.

I was about to start the Reputation tour with Taylor and I had just finished sound checking for the first show when I came to sit with my mom for a while.

"He looked handsome", she said when a picture of Shawn appeared on the screen.

"Who?", Sara, my choreographer asked her from the other side of the room, curiously.

"Shawn", she replied like she was talking about the boy next door, not the start he was.

"Shawn Mendes?", Sara asked again and came to take a look at him.

"He's such a sweet guy", my mom said. "Right, Camila?"

"Yeah", I replied, still fixed on the fact that he hadn't attended the gala alone.

I never saw him go with a date that wasn't someone from his family to any event. What did this mean? Did it actually mean something? My mom and Sara entertained themselves looking at other people's looks while I spaced out. I didn't understand why he hadn't said anything about it to me, I told him about Matthew. I felt like I just deserved the same decency. Why did I have to find out about this kind of stuff through the media when he was my friend? I thought about calling him, but what was I going to say? Hey, I saw you with Hailey Baldwin, care to share what's going on with you two? That didn't feel right. If he wanted to say something to me, he would, I just didn't understand why he didn't want to.

I excused myself and told them I was going to the restroom. I picked my phone and called my boyfriend.

"Hi, gorgeous", he said with his thick British accent that I loved.
