Normally I don't play favorites and all my characters are equal to me but this once, there has been an exception and one of them has become a favorite.

Guess who?

Neal Hastings (face claim: Harry Shun Jr.)

I'll admit that when I had started writing Sugarcoated Chillies and I was planning Neal's character, I was very skeptical of how it might turn out.

For starters, Neal was everything I might hate in a person judging from first impressions alone. But then how did he become my favorite character? Well because he does have layers to him that I had to very carefully craft.

Also, he was the first character of mine to be so outrageous, daring and reckless. He was the first character of mine that I did not limit to a single love interest and let him be very dazzling in his outward appearance.

The main purpose of writing this character was to show how people are very different deep inside from how they are perceived by others. And the entire story focuses on this main point.

For those of you who haven't read Sugarcoated Chillies | B. Gordon or Crushed Cigarettes | J. Todd, you might not have known this OC. But those who have read either of the books must know what I'm referring to right now.

In fact, this character became so important to me that I based off another character of mine (Dominic Hayden from The Hellfire Series) loosely on him. Dom has his senses of humor, his resilience, his attitude and shares the face claim as well. But at the same time I've tried to give Dom other attributes to not make him seem like just a carbon copy of Neal Hastings.

Maybe I just can't get over the fact that Neal's story ended and as I don't want to stop writing about him so I got another idea of adding a prequel to Sugarcoated Chillies.

Wilting Roses | N. Hastings is a retelling of Neal's story, from the beginning to the end. He has been the main male lead in Sugarcoated Chillies and a significant supporting character in Crushed Cigarettes, but Wilting Roses is the fanfic that focuses on him alone.

Told through various diary excerpts and narrative chapters, you will find this different in format as compared to the other two books featuring Neal. But here Neal has the center stage, even more than he had in Sugarcoated Chillies.

Let's see when I get time to publish it. Though for now Neal is being featured in Crushed Cigarettes and I can't wait for my exams to end so that I can resume updating this story regularly.

Hope you all have a lovely day.
