OVERVIEW:
Contracts were always a shady business and had to be signed with caution so that nothing in the declaration would later be used against the person signing it. And if a contract was signed carelessly, it could lead to unavoidable consequences. No one knew that better than Tim Drake.
He had carefully read all the terms and conditions, even added some points of his own where necessary and rechecked it twice to see if there were any loopholes he could have missed. And there was nothing in the fine print that could be held against him in any legal aspect.
The last line however was catching his eye again and again for some indescribable reason: This is a seriously professional relationship, both parties are required to abstain from showing any signs of misconduct, including catching feelings for the other.
"Do you think I will honestly end up falling for you?" He remarked, blue eyes observing her features to gauge her reaction.
"I could hardly care less. I just don't want to burden my conscience with breaking another heart."
She uncapped the pen, holding it out towards him as all that was left to do was sign the contract.
A light chuckle broke the silence from him, "so you think I'll get my heart broken and you are free from the risk of that happening to you instead... Highly presumptuous but I'll let it slide this once."
She smiled, brown eyes locking with his blue ones meaningfully, "don't take it as a challenge, Mister Drake. You will only be making things harder for yourself."
"We'll see," he shrugged, taking the pen from her and signing the document at last. "I hope it will be a pleasure working with you, Miss Donnelley."
"I hope so too, Mister Drake."

This is the first book in A Series Of Thin Lines, focusing on Tim Drake and his unexpected encounter turned relationship with Roxanne Donnelley.
Roxanne Donnelley is a socialite and businesswoman who has been receiving death threats and needs someone to be with her 24/7 to protect her. She does not trust a mere bodyguard to do the job right and she is looking for someone who won't stand out as much as a bodyguard because she can't let the rumors fly that she is under threat.
So she decides to pick a suitable candidate who could do both; pretend to be her boyfriend to put off the rumors going around her love life and be there to help her out of any dangerous situation. And to her, that suitable choice ended up being none other than Timothy Drake.
Okay, I know this is cliche but I want to experiment with it and see how it turns out.
This story is based on two cliche tropes that I am combining; fake dating and contract relationship. I don't think I've tried writing on either of these tropes earlier but I really want to see what I can make out of something overused. Because everyone knows I hate cliches but I've claimed that there are ways to make a cliche thing less cliche too (idk how many times I've written the word cliche in the same sentence by now).
So this time, I'm putting my own claim to the test. I hope it will be as enjoyable to you guys as the rest of my fanfics have been.
