Bill went and sat next to Pine-Tree. He could feel the boy tense at his sudden presence, it annoyed him but he kept his cool.
He took a look at the book the kid was reading. 'Dimensions: A guide for kids.'
"Interesting book you have there, Pine-Tree. Dimensions are a fascinating subject. Do you like that book?" He asked.
Pine-Tree hesitantly looked up at him and carefully nodded his head.
"Do you want me to read it to you?"
The boy thought for a second. He didn't trust Bill and was always tense around him. But he understood that he knew this demon before his memory was lost so, he wanted to have whatever trust they had in each other before, back.
"O-Okay." He said, handing his book over to Bill, who then started reading.
"Dimension 3. A very interesting dimension at that. Filled with color and wonder. There is no such thing as 'matching' here. Everything, no matter how it looks, looks good, even if we see it as bad. Of course, to those like myself who are used to having set patterns and colors that go with each other, this dimension is quite painful to the eyes. Though, you do get used to it after a while.-" Bill continued reading, Pine-Tree seeming very invested in the story and was starting to calm down by the second.
Bill was surprised, Pyronica's advice was actually working. He wasn't too sure if it would work, but look now, it's working! He will definitely need her advice more. It seemed for the first time in a lifetime, she knew more about this than he did, and he would actually need her help.
Speaking of Pyronica, she was watching the two from behind a bookshelf, with a smug grin on her face. She knew her plan would work. Her grin turned to a genuine smile when she saw Pine-Tree lay his head on Bill's side, relaxed. It was good that they were warming up to each other! She could see the trust building up between the two.
Pyronica knew deep down that the boy was just being used, but she couldn't help but feel like he was one of them now. Like she's known him for as long as she's known all her other friends in the nightmare realm.
~9 hours later~
"And they lived their happy lives finally together forever, with no one to stop their love. The end." Bill read before closing the book and setting it down on the coffee table in front of them. It fell next to the other 7 books they read. Pine-Tree was leaning on Bill's side. His eyes, very droopy and having a hard time staying open. Pyronica was just sitting in a chair with her knees tucked to her chest reading a book.
She noticed Bill had stopped reading and looked over to see him petting Pine-Tree's head as the boy finally drifted to sleep.
"He's starting to trust you." Pyronica said. Bill looked over to her. "How do you figure it out?"
Pyronica rolled her eyes. "Look where he's sleeping right now. His brain wouldn't let him do that if he didn't trust you. Sleeping is when he's in his weakest state. If he thought he wasn't safe where he was, I highly doubt his brain would let him fall asleep, but rather, keep him tense and on guard." She explained.
Bill looked towards the peaceful little boy next to him. He felt weird. And not the weird he was used to. This was... different... he couldn't put it into words. This was something he has never felt before. He couldn't explain it nor could he put it into words. This feeling was driving him more insane than he already was.
"Wouldn't it?"
Bill turned his head towards Pyronica. "What was that now?" He asked, not paying attention to what she said before.
"I said, it would be a good idea to put him to bed, wouldn't it?" She asked once more. Bill agreed and scooped the little boy up in his arms. Pine-Tree mumbled a few words in his sleep, though neither Bill or Pyronica heard what he had said.
Both made their way to his room. Bill set the boy down in his bed and with the snap of his fingers he was in tiny yellow pajamas and his covers were put over him. The two looked over him for a second before walking out.
"I did not expect that." Bill stated bluntly. Pyronica's smug grin formed on her face once more. "I did!" She said in a bragging manner.
Bill rolled his eye, "Alright, Alright. Why don't you go destroy a Galaxy or something? I've got some things I need to do."
Pyronica nodded her head and took her leave whilst Bill turned back into Pine-Tree's room.
The boy was fast asleep, his eyes gently closed and his stomach rising and falling at a slow and steady pace. Nothing but his breathing could be heard. The demon just watched as he got that feeling he had from before. That overwhelming and sickening feeling that he couldn't describe then and definitely couldn't describe now.
He wanted to pick him up and hold him tight, keeping the entire world away. Murdering anyone who tried to come near. He wanted to keep the boy little and fragile forever, but alas, he couldn't. His plan wouldn't work if he was like this forever.
If only things were different.
