~1 year later~
"Pine-Treeeee..."
"Piiiiiine-Treeeeee...."
"PINE-TREE!"
The boy was startled awake. "I'M UP! I'M UP!... o-oh... hi Bill..." he said, looking at the demon in front of him.
"Hiya, Pine-Tree! How did you sleep?" Bill asked, jokingly. Being a dream demon, he already knew the answer, he gave the kid a dreamless night, just letting him sleep blissfully.
The kid smiled, "I slept fine, till you woke me up..." he joked.
"Well, you can't blame me. Seems today is a special person's 12th birthday and, correct me if I'm wrong, I think you know why it's so special."
Pine-Tree thought for a minute before the sudden memory of what was going to happen today hit him and he gasped with excitement. "You mean it's-"
Bill seemed to get excited too. "Yup!"
"And I get to become-"
"Oh yeah!"
"And then I'll be just like-"
"Uh-huh! You'll be just like the rest of us! IMMORTAL!" Bill exclaimed, picking the kid up and laughing like a madman. It's not the fact that his child was going to be immortal that had him so joyful, no. His freedom was getting closer and closer, he could almost taste it... That is what made him so happy.
"Where is it? Where is it? Where is it!?!?!" Pine-Tree practically begged.
"Relax, kid! It's not here. You just woke up! Get your clothes on and meet me downstairs, then we'll start our little trip." Bill said, leaving the room.
Pine-Tree sprung out of his bed and ran to his closet, putting on his clothes, grabbing his cane, and racing downstairs.
Since his first time going to his birth dimension, Bill has let him travel there once every week.
Buuuuut, the boy seemed to notice how he constantly would fall and trip over the roots of the trees, and because of that, every so often he would steal Bill's classic black cane to use as a walking stick.
Bill got so annoyed with having his stuff taken all the time that he just gave the kid one of his own, and Pine-Tree never left the palace without it. It was his prized possession, he wanted to be just like Bill!
He walked through the halls of the mansion wondering about what it might feel like to be immortal. Will he feel any different than he does now? Will he get special powers like Bill?
The questions in his head only made him walk faster. When he finally got downstairs, Bill was waiting for him.
"There you are, my little Night Terror!" Bill said, the boy smiled. Being called a Nightmare or a Night Terror was always a very high praise in the Cipher family. Bill called the boy those names less often than the other nicknames he's received over the years, but when he did, it made Pine-Tree feel very proud of himself.
"Follow me, Pine-Tree. And try to keep up, will ya?" Bill said, leading the kid out of the palace, taking his hand and flying him through The Nightmare Realm.
They saw plenty of demons on the way, some just talking, roughhousing, whatever demons do. A few even waved up at him, to which he happily waved back. Pine-Tree saw the demons of the nightmare realm as his family.
This went on for a bit until the two finally got to their destination. A glowing red stream. When the two got closer it almost looked like blood. Pine-Tree's spirits still didn't drop, he knew what they were there for and he was excited.
"Now, now, kiddo. You know what this is going to do right?" Bill asked.
"It'll make me immortal! Just like you!" The boy exclaimed, barely able to keep himself composed. Bill gave a chuckle before dipping a rather large, glass vial into the stream, allowing the red liquid to fill it to the top before taking it out.
It looked like blood but it sure wasn't, it wasn't thick like blood is, it was more flowy like water. It also shimmered as if it had red glitter in it. The boy's eyes widened at the sight of it.
"Pine-Tree..." Bill said, trying to drag the boy's attention back to him. "This is a very big deal. Even though you'll become immortal you're going to stay at this age. Can you handle that?"
Without a care in the world and probably without even listening the boy nodded his head.
"Alright then, here you go. You must drink the entire thing without taking a breath. If you take a breath it won't work." Bill instructed, handing the vial over to Pine-Tree who happily took it and started gulping it down.
Bill laughed internally. The incomprehension of a child. Doesn't even understand what he's really getting himself into. But- how adorable his ignorance makes him. Oh what has raising a child done to me? He mentally questioned himself, though it was rhetorical.
The boy finished the vial but not even a minute later, a crash was heard below. He had dropped the vial and was holding his head in pain, he dropped to his knees still holding the temples of his head in agony, the shards of glass cutting into his skin.
Bill expected this reaction. In fact, it's what he wanted. It was working just like he hoped.
As Pine-Tree cried in pain and begged for help, Bill stood there and watched. His insane side enjoyed seeing the kid suffer, however, his new parental side almost couldn't bear it. He was conflicted but before he could even decide which side he was to stick with, the crying and screaming ceased.
Bill looked down and the boy was lying limp on the ground. His chest was still rising so he knew the kid was still alive, just too weak to even get up. He wasn't sleeping, he was just very very tired after that ordeal.
Bill went down next to him and positioned the boy so that he was sitting on his lap with his head resting on Bill's left arm. The boy slowly opened his eyes and asked, "D-Did- Did it work?"
Bill looked down and saw that his once caramel brown eyes were now crystal blue. "Yup! It worked perfectly. Congratulations my little Pine-Tree, you're immortal just like me. But after that- you'll need to sleep so your body can recover quicker."
The boy smiled, almost crying from joy. He rested his head on Bill's chest, next to his bow tie. "I love you." He whispered softly before drifting off to sleep. Bill felt a wave of emotions pass through him when hearing those words said to him for the first time ever. He brushed through the boy's hair, lightly laughing to himself.
"Hate you too, kid..."
