As time passed, Mabel eventually cried herself to sleep with her friends surrounding her, later falling asleep themselves. A blissful dreamless sleep engulfing their senses. Soon everyone in the shack would fall to the power of slumber. Except for 2.
As soon as Ford confirmed that everyone in the shack was asleep he carefully went back down to the lab to find his nephew, sitting on the metal table, drawing something on the back of one of some notes. He didn't seem to notice Ford entering the lab, in fact.
Ford slowly crept up behind the boy to get a look at what he was drawing. It was a picture with himself and... and Bill! With color and everything- it doesn't even look that bad.
(This picture was drawn by myself- I mean- Pine-Tree. Please don't steal it.)
Ford found the picture very curious and intriguing.
But what confused Ford is how Pine-Tree drew himself. He looked... nervous? And why did Bill look the way he did? He looked upset or even suspicious. Perhaps he should ask the boy about it later.
As to not frighten him, Ford went back to the entryway before calling out to him.
Pine-Tree- not knowing Ford had seen his drawing- quickly turned over the paper and turned towards the man who called him.
After a little convincing, Ford finally convinced Pine-Tree to go with him upstairs and that they did. When they exited the elevator, Pine-Tree's head filled with fear. There were humans on the floor! Humans! They looked like they were sleeping but still. THERE. WERE. MORE. HUMANS!
Subconsciously, the boy grabbed onto Ford's sleeve. When the adult noticed he pulled his arm out of the child's grasp, crossing it in front of his chest, encouraging Pine-Tree to relax himself.
Pine-Tree's suspicions were right! This was a trap! Those humans will wake up any second and who knows what they're going to do to him! His eyes went wide as quarters, he started backing up as his pulse quickened
Ford looked behind him, catching the boy before he was able to fall. "Shhh... it's okay. It's okay. They're all tired and most likely won't be waking up soon." He whispered, trying not to cause too much noise.
Pine-Tree focused on calming himself, perhaps he was right. Maybe they won't wake up too soon. He got his balance back and started to slow his own breathing. He was calm again.
Only then did his curiosity and amazement start showing. He was in a human house! With actual humans in it! It was very dangerous for him but- it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. Bill was already going to be mad at him so what the heck? Why not?
Pine-Tree slipped away from Ford and went into the kitchen. It was a small kitchen with a small table. He went towards the kitchen itself.
He was never really let into the kitchen back in The Nightmare Realm. It was just one of the rooms he wasn't allowed in. Whenever he wanted something, he would just ask a servant to get it for him and they would.
He walked up to the cabinets and opened them, a bunch of different food items catching his eyes. There were lots of cans, canned peaches, canned beans, canned corn, canned pineapples, canned bread... of course the boy didn't know what any of this was. He grew up eating what was given to him. He highly doubts anyone in this dimension would like what he eats. Though- he loves it.
His eyes furrowed in a bit of disgust at what they had to eat. It was then when his stomach decided to betray him. He was hungry... of course he was going to have to eat human food. Of course.
He looked at the pictures on the cans and decided to pick something called 'Pineapple in a can.' It had Pine in it, so did his name. Why not try it?
He picked up the can and held it in front of himself, turning it over and shaking it. How in the name of Cipher do you open this darn thing? He snapped his fingers, trying to use magic, but nothing happened. Something was blocking his magic, that doesn't help his situation any!
Starting to get frustrated, Pine-Tree started banging he can on the counter. His noodle arms barely even dented it.
Ford was leaning on the side of the doorway, watching the boy's struggles with absolute curiosity. He doesn't know how to open a can?
Pine-Tree continued trying to open the can a little longer before throwing it on the floor and crossing his arms over his chest like a five-year-old.
Yup he was raised by Bill all right! Ford thought to himself, having to bite his lip to contain his laughter. Ford walked over to the can, picking it up and walking back towards the kid. "Here, watch."
Still mad at the can for not opening, Pine-Tree reluctantly turned his head towards the man who was opening another cabinet, one with a few machine looking things in it.
Ford pulled out an automatic can opener and put the can in place, pushing the handle down.
Pine-Tree watching in amazement as the can started turning, the top of it opening up. When it was finished, Ford took it off, grabbing a fork and giving both to the boy.
He took it, his eyes wide with shock. Ford chuckled "It's called an electric can opener, it uses electricity to open cans for you. There's also such a thing as a manual one but that takes more time while the electric one is faster."
The boy mouthed an 'oh...' before looking down towards the can and fork in his hands. Inside the can were yellow squares surrounded by yellow shaded liquid. Nice color. It matched his sweater.
With much hesitation, Pine-agree jabbed one of the squares with his fork, pulling it out of the can. With even more hesitation he slowly put it into his mouth, chewing it and swallowing it. He tilted his head, it actually didn't taste half bad!
"Do you like it?" Ford asked, seeing his expression.
"Actually, yes. I do like it, it's nice!" The boy replied, eating more of the weird human food.
Ford smiled and sighed to himself, at least he knew that the kid didn't only eat, whatever it is Bill fed him.
That is good at least, right?
