Pine-Tree ran down the hall of the mansion giggling crazily, his black cloak failing behind him with the wind as he ran.
A few months ago, Bill told him about an event mortals in his home dimension would celebrate called 'Halloween' and now Pine-Tree can't get enough of it. Human children dressing up like demons and getting free candy??? Who wouldn't like that? At least there's one thing about his home dimension that isn't horrible!
In fact, this was the one human holiday that Bill openly allowed his little sapling to celebrate.
The 9 year old even made his own costume out of old fabrics he found. He decided to dress up as a character from a book he read in the library. A creature who always wore black hoods to protect their skin from the blistering sun, whose teeth were as sharp as razor blades, and whose eyes were red as blood!
The boy giggled to himself as he heard a few servants about to round the corner. He quickly hid, knowing exactly what he was trying to do.
When they finally reached the corner...
"RAWR!" Pine-Tree shouted, throwing his arms up, his fingers bending into claws.
The two servants jumped while one of them even dropped the box they were holding. Pine-Tree laughed at their earlier expressions while they just rolled their eyes, putting the contents of the box that was dropped back in the box.
"Pine-Tree! Stop it! It's not funny, what if I had been carrying something fragile?" The servant who was holding the box scolded.
Pine-Tree's sprightly mood lessened. "O-Oh. Sorry." He apologized.
The servants rolled their eyes again as they continued on their way.
The boy tilted his head down slightly. He wished there was another human around. No one here ever wanted to celebrate Halloween with him. Bill sometimes joined in but it wasn't very often. Like the others, Bill wasn't very keen on celebrating mortal holidays, but Pine-Tree liked it so he sucked it up and played along from time to time.
This year didn't seem like one of those times.
Pine-Tree sighed sadly as he took his cloak off. Maybe this was just a stupid idea... Not like anyones going to care if he celebrated by himself or not...
He started walking down the hall towards his room, slowly taking off the remaining pieces of his costume on the way. Maybe it would have been better if Bill hadn't told him about Halloween. He wouldn't feel so lonely when he celebrated it all alone had he not known what he was missing out on.
When the boy got back to his room, he folded up his costume and put it in his wardrobe before flopping onto his bed. For a while he just sat there, not wanting to do anything, but rather... just thinking. Thinking about what it would be like to actually be around others like him.
Bill always said his mortal family hated him and how the human race wouldn't accept him... but what if they did? Would his life be any better or would he still feel lonely and feel as though he's the odd boy out?
Pine-Tree could feel his eyes start to sting. He hated the feeling of being lonely. It was always... for lack of a better term... depressing.
And then there's the servants. Or... 'the slaves' as Bill sometimes calls them.
They always had to ruin everything. His mood, his day, his everything. It was as if they hated him, but yet Pine-Tree never did anything to make then hate him but they did. What did he do to them?
The boy could feel the drops of tears running down the sides of his head as he thought about it all. Why did he always feel so excluded from everything?
