Chapter 50 • Lucky Day

My body sways to the right and jolts as if JJ is slowly making a left turn. The constant clicking sound of the turn signal stops and I feel her bring the car to a stop on an incline. The engine shuts off and Maggie lets out a yawn from the backseat.

"We're here," JJ says and I hear the clicking of her seatbelt. "My dad and Gemma and Michal are here, but I'm sure they're here to help with the food. Anne said six o'clock, so we have a few minutes."

I smirk in her direction, wiggling my eyebrows in a flirtatious manner, "Is that an invitation to snog?"

"No, because we're going to be with our family soon and I don't want anyone suspecting that my husband was feeling me up in our car. Now, when we get home," she pauses, sliding her hand up my shoulder to my head and she strokes my hair behind my ear, "that's a different story."

"Hmm, I like the sound of that."

Using her arm as a guide, I feel my way to her cheek and I lean in close to her. Our lips meet and I capture her bottom lip between my lips, sucking softly and savoring her tropical fruit-flavoured lip balm.

Our kiss ends with a little sound and she sighs a dreamy sigh. "It's six now."

"Shall we go in then?"

"Yeah," she says and I can sense some hesitancy in her voice.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I promise. I'm just tired is all. It's been a rough week at work."

"I know, love, but just think once we get home tonight, we'll have the whole weekend just to ourselves and no worrying about work."

"Hmm, that does sound nice. Okay, I'll come around to get Maggie, then you."

"I'll wait right here," I grin, putting on my sunnies.

She giggles and I feel the car move as she gets out of the car. The door slams shut and while she takes care of Maggie, I run my hand through my hair to make sure I'm presentable enough and I hear her fingernails tap on my window and I open the door.

"Careful of the curb now," she warns, guiding my hand to her elbow and I get out of the car. "Here's the harness. I'll shut the door."

"Thanks, love," I reply, readjusting my grip on her elbow with my right hand and gripping the harness with my left. "Shall we?"

"We shall," JJ giggles and starts leading me up the walkway. "I wrote down a few things."

"A few things for what?"

"Things to discuss with everyone tonight so I'm sure nothing will be left out. I want every concern to be addressed and every task to either be taken care of or at least have a name to that task. These babies will be here before we're ready and I want to have everything ready for them."

"And we will," I kindly remind her.

"Thank you, Harry. Alright, there's a step to the porch, but I'm sure you already know that."

"I do, but I'll still thank you because I appreciate you being my eyes for me."

"Those were my vows to you and I intend to keep my vows," she sweetly says and I give her elbow a little squeeze. "You want to ring the doorbell or shall I?"

"I can do it. Could you point me to it, please?"

The sound of the door opening startles me and JJ smooths her hand on my shoulder.

"Welcome, my lovelies. Come in," Mum says and JJ leads me inside. "How are you?"

"I'm fine, Mum-"
