"Miwana, do you have a sister?"

Maybel wondered as she rested her stomach on her bed, playing with her two barbie dolls. She had an extra bed in her room. Plus, Kade had already taken in the guest room, so I was left with no choice unless I take the couch or an empty bed in the attic filled with dust. But of course Walter and Lydia says no to them bogh. However, it did made me feel relieved that Maybel wanted me to stay with her.

I think Walter trusts me already. I don't know how but hopefully I did gave off that vibe.

"No, Maybel. I'm an only child." I replied softly, my fingers drawing circles on the bed sheet.

"Like Kadey?" She glanced at me for a second.

I gazed up at her before chuckling at her constant nickname for him. "Just like your big cousin."

She then pouts, leaning her head down and rested her cheek against her arm. "I wish Kadey is my brother. He always gets me candy and buy me everything I want everytime he's here. My brothers don't do that." She then paused before her eyes widened for a second. "Don't tell Kadey I said that."

I lightly chuckled once more at her oblivious comment, giving her a reassuring smile. "Well your brothers will give you a lot of treats when they grow up, Maybel."

"I hope s—"

The sound of the door creaking made us both jolting our heads towards the door. I furrowed my brows before questioning.

"Perez, what are you doing?"

His fingers promptly zip up his jacket as he tilted his chin towards me. "We're going out."

I lifted a brow. "But I'm about to sleep."

"I know, but they wouldn't let me out at this time."

I pursed my lips. "Where are we going?"

There was a faint smirk tugged on his lips. "You think we only came to ride horses?" He then turned towards Maybel with a stern look. "Maybel, don't tell your papa I'm sneaking out, okay?"

She then jumped up and stood tall on her bed. "Candy." She grumbled, sticking out her palm. Her eyelids half closed, looking cute like always.

Oh he's screwed.

Kade looked like he held back the urge to groan. "Maybel, I don't have a candy but you know what's better?" He pulled a dollar out of his jacket pocket before fake gasping, making me snicker. "A dollar! You can get way more than one candy with a dollar at your friend's mother's shop."

I narrowed my eyes.

He just used cash.

On a kid.
