FINALLY THE GRUMBLING NOISES in my tummy took a silent break. Arriving at our desired burger corner, Dre made an awfully painful squeal to inform us, as if we didn't see the place before he even told us. Kade muttered something under his breath along the line of being relieved that we have arrived so he can distance himself away from me.
I skipped directly towards Dre and walked beside him while Kade and Franco trailed behind us. I was hoping neither of them were looking at me from the back because it would make the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. Tilting my head up, I gazed at the large signboard sat on a tall pole next to a small restaurant. The signboard was covered with dirt, dust and mud. It was dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. Well it does look difficult to be cleaned since it's way up there on the top anyways.
Susie's Shack - since 1995
Entering inside, the immediate wave of air conditioner filled my body, giving me shivers. I gritted my teeth as I hugged myself. I was only wearing a shirt since it's hot outside but it's cold in here. We were greeted warmly by three women that looked like they were in their fortys, sitting back behind the counter. One, counting the amount of cash on her hand, the other wiping the wet glass with a towel while the last one, writing down a note onto a small scrap paper.
"Oh look! it's Dre again." The one writing the note down drop her pen and eyed Dre first before looking at the three of us. My eyes diverted to her name tag. Molly.
"I'm back! Where's Susie?" Dre grinned at the three women, earning a smile from each of them. They looked as if they were happy to see their son.
"In her office, sorting out some things. I'll tell her you're here." The one who was drying the glass grinned, wiping her hands on the apron. "Why don't you guys take a seat first?" The lady clapped as she danced her way to the the back of the restaurant.
"Come on." Dre tugged on my arm, asking me to follow him. I nodded and walked to wherever seat he desired.
I eyed the restaurant interior. There is several small picture frames hung onto the wall almost in every corner. The walls are painted light beige, while the floors were wooden, and I felt it creaked everytime I made another step. There is pot of plants in some parts of the restaurant, giving it some color. There were not a lot of people at the moment, which was strange because the way Dre said about this place sounded like it serves delicious food. Well probably it might get more customers during the evening.
"Here," Dre told gesturing me to go inside the restaurant booth. I nodded and proceed to enter the small restaurant booth that fits four people. There is a soft red leather that glued to the booth, making it comfortable for me to lean back. He then joined beside me after, followed by Franco who sat in front of me while Kade infront of Dre. I was pretty much relieved that Kade wasn't sitting in front of me.
