Bishop Brian stood between Ev and I. He cleared his throat and began:
"Good evening everyone!
From this beautiful museum in the heart of the city that never sleeps, we take ourselves out of the usual routines of daily living to witness a unique moment in the lives of Zak and Evelyn. Today they once again join their lives in the union of marriage. To all their guests, they are happy to share this moment with you. They have known most of you for many years. You watched them grow up, you went to school with them, or you worked with them. Because you are the ones who have supported them and known them so well, it is only fitting that you are the ones to share this once-in-a-lifetime moment with them. Zak and Evelyn are pleased to have their parents in the front row...close to them for the ceremony. Zak thanks his mother for providing him with every opportunity possible and being the best mother anyone could ask for. Evelyn appreciates all the love and support her parents gave her to get here. A wedding day is often a day when couples miss family members no longer with them. For Zak and Evelyn, there are family members whose memories they hold dear, such as Zak's father, Larry Bagans as well as the couple's two angel children, Liam Blake & Bexley Jane who passed before they were born. And so it is that Zak and Evelyn present themselves to be married today...surrounded by the people they love the most.
As Zak and Evelyn prepared for the ceremony part of this 5 year wedding celebration, they reflected on what it is that they love about each other. And this was was the easiest part of planning this wedding!"Bishop Brian put his hand on Evelyn's shoulder and listed everything I told him I loved about her.
"Evelyn, Zak loves that you blend in so comfortably with his world. He sees in you a funny, kind, and sweet woman. He loves that you think he is funny and that you always find a way to compliment him. He loves that you always want to be close to him when he's home. You remember details of the investigations he tells you about. You want to be part of his work. Most importantly, you are so close that even when he is at his worst, you have never made him feel like you want anything but to be closer to him."
Once he finished reading, he turned to me.
"Zak, Evelyn loves that you love making babies with her. She loves your brain, your smile, and your wicked good looks. She appreciates that you are "low maintenance." She likes when you can be really silly and really dirty. She loves your texts and FaceTimes on the road. She loves your cooking. She loves your kisses. She just really loves you!"
We and the audience laughed as Bishop Brian continued.
"You both look to a shared future that includes continuing to raise your happy and healthy family. That future also includes a richly lived life together...going out to restaurants, hanging out with family, relaxing at home in front of the TV, going on investigation and possibly adding more babies to the mix."
Again, there was laughter about us making babies. I winked at my gorgeous bride.
"The years will come and go...you won't take each other for granted, you will laugh a lot, you will be the best parents you can be, you will grow older and wiser together. It's a good story, and the ending is not in sight. We come now to the words Zak and Evelyn want to hear the most today...the words that take them across the threshold from being engaged to being married. A marriage, as most of us understand it, is a voluntary and full commitment. It is made in the deepest sense to the exclusion of all others, and it is entered into with the desire and hope that it will last for life. Before you declare your vows to one another, I want to hear you confirm that it is indeed your intention to be married today. Zak, do you come here freely and without reservation to give yourself, again, to Evelyn in marriage? If so, answer "I do.""
"I Do!" I said staring into Evelyn's breathtaking green eyes.
"Evelyn, do you come here freely and without reservation to give yourself, again, to Zak in
marriage? If so, answer "I do."""I do, too." She said smiling.
"Zachary and Evelyn, having heard that it is your intention to be married to each other, I now ask you to declare your marriage vows which you yourselves have written. Please face each other and hold hands. Zachary, I believe you have some vows to say to your sweet bride? Take it away!" He said as he handed me the mic.
"Ev, you and I both know how indecisive I can be at times. I simply don't like to make decisions. But if there is one decision in my life that I know is the right one, it's to spend the rest of my life with you. There is an infinite number of things I love about you. I love your thoughtfulness and your ability to keep me grounded. I love your loyalty to me and our relationship. I love the way that you know just what's on my mind just from a look and I love how giggly you get from a glass of wine. I know that on our original wedding day, I told you I couldn't love you anymore. Boy, was I wrong. My love for you grew a million times over each time I saw you give birth to our children. You were meant to be the mother of my children and you made me realize why it never worked with anyone else. I love you." I said as I gave her a Bagans smile.
"Zachary, when we first met, I never imagined this day (or any of these days with you) would come, but now that we are here I couldn't have imagined choosing anyone else but you to go through life's journey with. I love your laugh, your smile, your caring nature and the way you get protective over me. I promise to support you, to honor you and to love you unconditionally, even when we may disagree on things. I've loved watching you become my husband and a father. I hope we never stop hunting ghosts, having wild & ravenous sex or fall out of this crazy little thing called love. I can't imagine where I would be without you, and I cannot wait to continue this crazy journey with you by my side. I promise to love you, even when we are ghosts and just know that if I pass before you, I'm gonna haunt your ass. I love you."
The mic was passed back to Bishop Brian.
"Your wedding ring are the outward and visible sign of the inward and invisible bond which already unites you two hearts in love.
Zachary, place the ring on your brides finger and repeat after me....
I give you this ring.
Wear it with love and joy.
As this ring has no end,
My love is also forever.
Evelyn, place the ring on your Groom's finger and repeat after me....
I give you this ring.
Wear it with love and joy.
As this ring has no end,
My love is also forever.
May the wedding rings you exchanged today remind you always that you are surrounded by enduring love.
Everyone has advice for newlyweds. Zak and Evelyn, I offer these good wishes to you on this special day.
May your life together be blessed with prosperity and good health. May you always share open and honest communication between each other. May you respect each other's individual talents and gifts and give full support to each other's professional and personal pursuits.
May you cherish the home and family you will continue to create together. May all the years to come be filled with moments to celebrate and renew your love. May your love be a life-long source of excitement, contentment, affection, respect, and devotion for one another.
And so now by the power vested in me, it is my honor and delight to declare
you, after 5 beautiful years together already, husband and wife. You may seal this declaration with a kiss.
I am pleased to present the not-so newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Zachary & Evelyn Bagans!"
