Marriage

"Evelyn Rae Hadley, will you marry me?" I asked. A ring pinched in my fingers.

"Oh my god. Jay! Yes! I will!" She said.

I stood up to hug and kiss her. The hospital staff clapping and cheering.

"Careful. Don't squish him." She said as I held her.

I got in the hospital bed with her and she gently placed my son in my arms.

"Dallas Jay Wasley. You're here. We worked so hard for you to get here,' I told him as I rocked him. "You did so amazing Mama." I said kissing Evelyn.

The rest of the day was spent passing him back and forth between Evelyn and I. We called everyone we knew and told them.

Evelyn's kids all came with my soon to be in laws.

"What's his name, Mom?" Grayson asked.

"His name is Dallas."

"Who is his dad?" Emery asked.

"Jay is his Daddy, baby. He's your step dad and Dallas is your step brother." She calmly responded.

"He is perfect. Absolutely perfect. You did a wonderful job." Evelyn's Mom said as she held her grandson.

"Congratulations, Jay. You're a father and almost a husband." Her Dad said.

"I really appreciate it. We both do. Thanks so much for taking the kids til we get home." I said.

Soon after they left, my parents showed up.

"Mom, Dad, this is Dallas. Dallas Jay Wasley, my son." I said as I gave him to my Mom.

"Oh my sweet baby boy. Hello. I'm Grandma Wasley. Yeah, I'm your Grandma." She gently placed him in my Dads arms.

"Hi there, son. I'm Grandpa. God you look like your Dad. You're so handsome. And Evelyn, we knew about the proposal. It killed us to keep the secret especially when he said it would be right after the delivery and your due date passed a month ago." My Dad told her.

My parents stayed and left when Aaron and Billy came. Both absolutely loved Dallas and could not stop congratulating us on our engagement.

After what seemed like a million visitors of our families, we were finally alone once again.

I decided to catch up on work emails and Evelyn quietly held Dallas as she watched whatever was on TV. She was utterly exhausted after the day she had and so was Dallas. They immediately both fell asleep.
