The next morning, Allen awoke and left his room to find Darrel waiting in the hallway for him.

"Oh, good morning, Your Highness," Allen bowed, alarmed to find the princess in the guards' wing so early in the day.

"Hello, Allen," Darrel nodded. "Could you please gather a few other guards? I want to catch the next train to Downton."

"Ma'am, these travels take planning. We could leave tomorrow if you wish."

"Please, Allen. I need closure. There does not appear to be any chance of Lord Grantham forgiving me, and so I wish to collect my final things from Downton."

The Head Royal Bodyguard was unsure of what to do. Even though he knew that it was not traditional to allow a member of the Royal Family to go on a spontaneous trip, he knew how much Darrel had been through. On top of which, he still had not heard from Thomas since Chadwick's dinner party, and he was looking forward to seeing him again.

Allen let out a heavy sigh, "Very well, ma'am. If you give me an hour, we can catch the next train."

"Thank you, Allen."

"Of course, Your Highness."

Allen gave a slight bow as Darrel walked off, wiping tears from her eyes.

"Let me come with you to Downton," Sebastian requested once he heard of Darrel's plans.

"I'll be fine on my own," Darrel nodded as she paced near the entrance, waiting for the guards.

"I can help you with your belongings and keep you company on the train."

"That is very sweet of you, Seb. But it will be a quick journey; I will be back by dinner."

"Are you sure? What if you talk to Lord Grantham or any other family members?"

"Seb, I am no longer welcome at Downton. Papa has made that abundantly clear, so I wanted to collect some of my things."

Sebastian did not know what to say, as he could see that Darrel had a point. A handful of guards approached the couple and sunk into bows.

"Are you ready, Your Highness?" Allen inquired.

"I am, thank you," Darrel nodded, then turned to Sebastian. "Goodbye, darling. I will see you tonight."

"Be careful," Sebastian muttered.

Darrel gave him a small smile, kissed his cheek and then walked out of Buckingham Palace, followed by her guards. Sebastian let out an annoyed sigh and went to find his cousin.

During the train ride up to Yorkshire, Allen sat in the compartment with Darrel, and unlike on previous journeys, neither of them spoke. They both had their issues on their mind. At one point, the princess looked up at her guard.
