"Are you sure that's him?" Lily gasped, peering over Francis' shoulder.

"I'm positive," the footman nodded. "Don't you read the papers?"

"I don't have the time. I have more important things to do."

Francis turned to glare at the maid, who gave him a mischievous grin. Francis turned back to the window and pushed the curtain back further to glance down at the driveway.

"Who invited them?" Francis inquired. "Was it Her Highness?"

"If it was, I didn't know anything about it," Lily shrugged. "Although I'm not the princess' confidante."

"Does Mr Carlos know that they're here?"

"It doesn't look like it. I'm not excited to see his reaction."

"If he wasn't the one to invite them...Mr. Carlos will hit the roof."

Francis nodded as Darrel approached them. Lily nudged him and they dropped into a bow and curtsey.

"Your Highness," Lily greeted.

"Happy birthday, Your Highness," Francis nodded.

"Thank you, Francis," Darrel smiled. "What are you doing by the window?"

"Well...a car drove up, and we wanted to see who it was."

"And?"

Francis glanced away, unsure of how to break the news to her. Lily tried to urge Francis to continue with his sentence but he did not look her way. Darrel rolled her eyes and then turned to her lady's maid.

"Lily, who arrived at the Palace?" Darrel inquired.

Due to the Princess of Wales' direct question, Lily was unable to remain silent. She had to answer her.

"It's the Prince and Princess of Spain...ma'am," Lily replied.

"What?!" Darrel gasped, rushing to the window.

Darrel pushed the curtain to the side and looked down at the driveway. She saw a footman unloading cases from the trunk, engraved with the crest of the Spanish Royal Family. Taking a deep breath, she rushed towards the stairs and to the driveway.

"So...Her Highness did not invite him," Francis observed.

"And if it was Mr Carlos, he did not tell her," Lily added.

"I thought that after three years there would be less drama."

"Trust me, it's far more interesting to work here now that there's drama."

"I suppose so. I better get downstairs before Mr Wilson sacks me. I'll see you later."

Francis gave her a nod and headed to the servants' stairwell. Lily straightened the curtains and then went to Darrel's room to lay out her dress for the evening.
