Sebastian glanced out of the window in his cabin, watching the waves crash as the boat continued its route towards Spain. Sebastian used to enjoy the journey between England and Spain because it gave him time to think. During those few days, he would not have to deal with the summons from his parents, letters arriving, or the drama he had to deal with as the Prince of Spain. Things were quiet while on the boat; it was only him in the cabin. He was alone with his thoughts, and the paperwork that he told his father he would get done, although he never did. However, it was only on his first journey back to Spain after three years that he realized another reason he loved boats; there was a level of excitement or anticipation. Either he was going to England, to see the love of his life, or he was returning home to his duties and JF. Yet it was different this time because he was leaving England with the fear of never seeing his fiancée again, and arriving in a country that he could no longer call his home.
The door to his cabin opened, and JF entered. Sebastian almost smirked as he realized that this was the first time they were allowed on the same boat. Before, when Sebastian was the prince, they were first and second in line to the throne, so his parents wanted them to travel separately. However, the cousins never obeyed that rule, and one of them would sneak onto the other person's boat and deal with the lecture upon their return. Eventually, JF convinced the King and Queen of Spain that they could not trust Sebastian on his own, and therefore it would be better if he accompanied his younger cousin throughout the entire journey.
"Is everything all right?" Sebastian inquired.
"Yes," JF nodded as he sat down across from his cousin. "We should be arriving in a few minutes."
"Good. I was getting tired of this trip."
JF laughed and then began to twist one of his curls around his index finger, demonstrating that he was nervous.
"JF, what's wrong?" Sebastian asked.
"Sebastian, are you sure that you want to do this?" JF replied. "If you were to stay on the boat and head straight back to England, I am sure you would not get into trouble."
"I have to do this."
"Do you? Perhaps Aunt Sofía exaggerated in her letter; His Majesty might be fine, and then..."
"Perhaps not," Sebastian snapped. "And I cannot take that risk of not getting a chance to say goodbye."
"But are you sure it is worth the risk of getting arrested?" JF wondered. "Look, I know that it must be hard to be unwelcome in Spain. But it will not be forever, and in the meantime, you've made a good life for yourself back in England. You have a home there and you have Elizabeth. Do you want to lose everything to say goodbye to a man...who no longer views you as his son?"
