That night, Darrel entered the drawing room to find everyone else waiting for her. Aside from her parents, sisters and their husbands, they invited: Violet, Isobel, Dickie, Rose and Atticus. She planned to go downstairs earlier, but it took her some time to convince Allen not to guard the room.

"I'm sorry that I'm late," Darrel nodded. "I had to speak with the guards."

"Hello, darling, it's so nice to see you again," Cora smiled, hugging her.

"I've missed you, Mama."

Darrel went to hug Robert, and her grandmother then sat down next to Edith.

"How was your ball?" Rose inquired. "I wish we could have gone."

"It was fine," Darrel shrugged. "I would've invited the family, but Their Majesties wanted to have a small guest list this year."

"According to the papers, there were hundreds of guests," Mary muttered.

"Must you always cause trouble?" Edith demanded.

"Well of course you say that; she invited you."

Darrel rolled her eyes and tried to tune out her older sisters. Over the years she learned that the best thing to do when Mary and Edith argued was to stay out of it.

"I still don't understand it!" Mary exclaimed. "I'm far more interesting than you are!"

"It's nothing to do with personality," Edith snapped. "Besides, Bertie was the one that got invited. I went because I'm his wife."

"And why would Their Majesties invite him?"

"Thank you," Bertie replied in a sarcastic tone.

At that point, Rose couldn't help but smirk from the argument. She found it entertaining, whereas everyone else waited for it to stop.

"Could you please stop arguing for once in your lives?" Darrel groaned. "I missed Downton, but if you plan to argue the whole time, I shall return to London."

"Fine, sorry," Edith sighed.

Mary smirked at her younger sisters, showing that in her mind, she won the argument.

"How's the automobile shop?" Darrel asked, turning away from her sisters.

"Business is well," Tom nodded.

"Yes, I'm impressed with the growth it's had over the past few months," Henry added.

"I'm glad," Mary smiled, placing her hand on her husband's.

"Where is Sebastian?" Violet inquired, looking around the room as if expecting him to appear.

"He stayed in London," Darrel replied. "He's not feeling well."
