Darrel walked into the drawing room, followed by Freda and Allen. Mabel had excused herself to go to the restroom.

"What was that dinner?" Freda sighed, sitting down.

"I'm not entirely sure," Darrel laughed awkwardly, sinking into an armchair.

"The Duke of Dulverton seemed rather interested in you."

"I know. Throughout the dinner, he kept asking the others questions about me. I am starting to fear that is the reason why everyone was invited."

"Then why was I invited? I barely got a glimpse of you at Rose's ball."

"I assume to ask about David attending the ball?"

Freda shrugged.

"Do you know what happened between David and the Duke of Dulverton?" Darrel inquired. "I can't seem to get a straightforward answer from anyone."

"Well, they were at college together," Freda explained. "According to him, Chadwick was quite arrogant and reminded everyone that he was a duke. David did not think much of him, but Chadwick was always different around him and acted as if he was the most charming person in the world."

"It seems as if he has not changed."

"Hopefully, the men come through soon and then we can end this disastrous party."

"I agree."

"Can I ask a question?" Freda requested.

"Of course," Darrel replied.

"Did Lady Mary see all those men?"

Darrel nodded, smirking at the same time. Despite how awkward the dinner had been, she was looking forward to teasing her older sister about the guests at the party.

Back in the dining room, Chadwick had passed out drinks and cigars to the men. Sebastian had dropped all pretences and was visibly irritated, while David appeared bored.

"Well, men, it was lovely having you here this evening," Chadwick smiled.

"Please spare us..." Sebastian groaned. "Everyone can see through your act."

"I beg your pardon?"

"Sebastian..." David warned.

"Everyone knows that your guest list is not simply a coincidence," Sebastian accused. "You just so happened to invite everyone from Her Highness' past? What is your plan?"

"I do not know what you are talking about," Chadwick shrugged.

"Stop lying to us. Nobody here trusts you."
