The following morning, Darrel caught a train to head up to Yorkshire, hoping to speak and reconcile with her father. When she told Sebastian that she planned to head back to Downton, he agreed to go with her but seemed unhappy about it. Knowing how much was on his mind, Darrel told him that he did not have to go with her, and he could continue to think. Besides, she wanted to spend some time alone with her family.

Darrel spent the train ride staring out the window, letting her thoughts consume her. She did not know what to say to Robert, how to solve Chadwick's problem, or how she would cope with Sebastian leaving her if that was his decision. Allen, who was in the train compartment, noticed her change in behaviour.

"Are you all right, Your Highness?" Allen inquired.

"Yes, I am quite all right," Darrel nodded. "I have a lot on my mind, that is all."

"If you are certain, ma'am. I apologize for interrupting your thoughts."

"No, do not worry. If anything, I was probably overthinking."

"There are worse things in life than that, ma'am."

Appreciating his efforts to help, Darrel forced a small smile, although did not say anything else for the remainder of the journey.

Darrel (and her guards) arrived at Downton Abbey shortly after luncheon ended.

"Should we bring the cases up to your room, ma'am?" Benjamin asked.

"Not yet," Darrel replied, wanting to wait until she spoke to Robert before having her guards unpack if she was to leave in a few minutes. "There is something that I want to do first."

"Yes, ma'am," the guard nodded before turning around to roll his eyes at Sidney.

If Darrel saw her guards, she did not show any indication; she had come to Downton with a mission, and that was what she intended to do.

She went up to the door and rang the doorbell. Within a few minutes, the door opened, and Thomas stood before them.

"M'lady," he bowed. "Welcome back."

"Thank you, Thomas," Darrel smiled. "Do you know where Papa is?"

"He is in the library, m'lady."

"Thank you."

Darrel stepped inside and headed towards the library, not bothering to give anyone her coat or gloves.

"What is going on?" Thomas asked, turning to Allen.

"I am not sure," Allen shrugged. "Although she told us not to unpack yet. I assume she wants to wait until after she speaks with Lord Grantham."

"Well, then what are you supposed to do until then?"
