A couple of days later, Mary, Edith and Rose entered the library as they discussed Lady Mary's former suitors. It was Edith and Darrel's favourite pastime to laugh about "Mary's Men," and Rose found it entertaining.

"Charles Blake was by far the most interesting of the lot," Edith declared.

"And the best looking," Rose added.

"Plus, I know that he is Darrel's favourite."

Mary rolled her eyes, not wanting to discuss her love life for much longer.

"Evelyn Napier tried the hardest," Rose pointed out.

"Evelyn was dull," Mary informed

"But he did not give up. He knew a long time ago that you found him boring, but he still returned to Downton."

"He came for work with Charles."

"And to see you again," Edith smirked.

Mary was about to respond when the door opened and Henry entered with Tom, Bertie, Atticus and Perseus.

"Hello, everyone," Henry nodded. "What are you talking about?"

"Mary's Men," Edith replied.

"Mary's what?" Perseus repeated.

"A while ago, a group of suitors attempted to pursue Lady Mary."

"It wasn't a group!" Mary protested as Tom laughed.

"I am hardly surprised," Perseus shrugged. "I'm sure you had suitors lined up throughout the village in attempts to win your hand."

Mary smiled at the flattery while Rose suppressed a giggle and Edith rolled her eyes.

"How about we change the subject?" Henry suggested, sitting down next to his wife. "I won, and that's all that matters."

"It was a spectacular win," Tom chuckled. "Many men tried, many men failed."

Mary shot her brother-in-law a glare, but he kept laughing.

"I am rather out of the loop," Perseus protested. "How many men were there?"

"The real contenders were Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake," Edith informed. "Although Evelyn Napier tried at one point."

"Ah yes, I've met all of them at some function or another."

"What happened to them all?" Atticus inquired, who was no longer aware of the British upper class since he lived in New York.

"Tony's married to Mabel Lane Fox, and the others are still bachelors," Bertie explained. "There's a rumour around London that Evelyn still pines for Mary."
