Meanwhile, as Sebastian spoke to David about his dilemma, Darrel had her driver take her to Paul's London home. Paul spent most of his time at Downton with his mother to help her on the farm. However, he still spent time in London with his father.

Darrel walked up the steps and rang the doorbell. In a few minutes, the door swung open, and the butler poked his head out.

"Your Highness!" He gasped, then remembered himself, and sunk into a bow.

"Hello," Darrel nodded. "I was wondering if Paul was in?"

"I am afraid he went out to run an errand, ma'am. However, I am sure he would not mind if you waited for him to return."

"Thank you."

The butler stepped aside and opened the door to allow Darrel to enter, followed by Allen.

As Darrel entered the house, Paul's father, Sir Charlie Ringer descended the stairs.

"Good afternoon, Your Highness," Sir Charlie bowed. "I did not realize that you and Paul had plans today."

"We do not," Darrel replied. "However, I had some spare time, so I thought I would pop in to speak with him."

"I am sure he will be happy to see you, ma'am. Although, I am afraid that he is not here at the moment. But you are more than welcome to wait for him to return."

"Thank you, I appreciate that. And while I am here, there is something that I wanted to ask you."

"Of course, ma'am. Come into the library, and I will ring for some tea."

Darrel gave him an appreciative smile and then followed him to the library. Although, she did not need to follow him since she had visited Paul enough times to have memorized the entire layout of the house. She could even locate the rooms she was not supposed to know about, such as the secret doorways and passages designated for the servants.

Once Darrel and Sir Charlie were settled in the library and the butler delivered tea to them, the princess laced her fingers together and took a deep breath.

"Well, this might seem a bit of the blue, Sir Charlie," Darrel began. "However, I have thought about this for quite some time."

"I am interested to hear about your idea, ma'am," Sir Charlie nodded.

"His Majesty has been urging me to find myself a private secretary. I have now been in my position for over three years. In the meantime, His Majesty's private secretary, Lord Stamfordham has attempted to advise me. Without boring you with the details; he is not a nice man."

"Yes, I have had the opportunity to meet his Lordship. I agree with you, ma'am that his personality is not always friendly."

"I believe that the main problem with Lord Stamfordham is that he does not respect me. He does not like how I became the Princess of Wales and does not have faith in me. He believes that I shall cause the downfall of England."
