The following day, Perseus Chadwick sat in his library when the door opened and his butler stepped in.

"Mr Sebastian Carlos is here to see you, Your Grace," he announced.

"Yes, send him in," Perseus nodded, as he got to his feet.

"Right away, sir."

The butler bowed and then stepped out. Perseus returned the book to the shelf and headed to his drink cart.

Sebastian entered the library and gave the duke a nod of acknowledgement.

"Good afternoon, Mr Carlos," Perseus smiled.

"Duke," Sebastian replied. "I received your telegram..."

"Yes, I appreciate you coming on such short notice."

"It sounded urgent. Is everything alright?"

"Yes, of course. I wanted to speak with you. We did not get much of a chance at Downton."

"Well...Her Highness was ill."

"Yes, and I admire your devotion to her."

"Thank you."

"Can I offer you a drink, Mr Carlos?"

"No, thank you."

"Very well."

Perseus poured himself a scotch and motioned for Sebastian to sit down. The men sat down across from each other. Sebastian eyed the duke with suspicion, while Perseus wore his usual smile.

"I fear we got off on the wrong foot at Downton," Perseus declared. "We hardly spoke."

"We did not have the time," Sebastian reminded.

"Yes, that is my point. We spent a few weeks together and did not have a chance to get to know each other. And you seem like a nice chap, and since you are a member of the Royal Family, it seems right that we get to know each other."

"Why?"

"Well, I am friends with David and Elizabeth."

"Their Royal Highnesses," Sebastian corrected.

"I am on friendly terms with them," Perseus assured.

"As far as I can tell, His Highness cannot stand you."

"You cannot trust everything that you hear."

"I know His Highness better than I know you; I have no reason to trust you, Duke. Besides, I have yet to hear any positive anecdotes."
