I waited outside patiently while I scrolled through Instagram. I chuckled at the comments with me and my dad. Everyone thinks I'm taken but it was meant for Beau. He is special to me, he always was. Even after our fallout. He was there for me even when I became popular in high school. I know it didn't go well in senior year. He got more distant and I hated myself for that. I would always try to convince him to join the fun but he wouldn't budge, especially when Madeleine was around. I had my theories of why he was distant, number one theory was Madeleine.

After I broke up with Madeleine. I knew I made a mistake in letting our friendship wither away. You see I was blinded by high school love, Madeleine was the girl I wanted and she was nice to me. I was a loner just like Beau but my popularity happened so fast. People started following me because I sang and also because I was with the head cheerleader, leaving Beau in the dust.

A part of me wanted to dump Madeleine and continue my friendship with Beau but another part of me liked the popularity. I was never popular and this was my chance to shine but it came with an unforeseen consequence. I lost my best friend.

I remembered I invited him to the movies, it would be only me and him but Madeleine invited herself. I saw the disappointment in his eyes but he canceled at that moment, that was the start of our demise.

*SENIOR YEAR*

I saw Beau sitting by himself outside. He slowly ate his sandwich and kept his gaze downward. I feel so bad, he doesn't deserve to be by himself but he's always been so quiet. I've been there for him most of our high school. Now we were so close to graduating and he doesn't have anyone.

I walked closer and his eyes looked up at me. I saw a faint smile form on his lips and his blue eyes light up. Madeleine had to do some cheer practice so this gave me time to be with him.

I placed my tray on the table and that's when his smile lit up. He had the most perfect white teeth, he had stopped putting his hoodie over his head, maybe because his face cleared up so much. His hair was always messy but it looked good on him. "Hey, it's been a while since we hanged out," his eyes softened while he averted his gaze away from me.

"Yeah, well you're busy," his words were full of sadness. I needed to make it up to him. I cared for him, he will always be my best friend no matter how our lives were different.

"Hey, Captain. Look at me," his blue eyes aligned with mine. I could see the sadness swirl in his eyes. Fuck. I'm fucking up our friendship.

"You're still my best friend. Let's go to the movies, my treat. Only me and you," his smile gleamed so brightly, something in me changed. I suddenly found him—attractive. His blue eyes swirled with happiness, his lips were plump, his jawline was maturing, and his smile made my heart pump faster.

"Ooo, did someone say movies?" my thoughts of Beau dissipated. I heard Madeleine's sweet voice but it annoyed me at the same time. She sat next to me and kissed my cheek. I glanced at Beau and his eyes were devastated. "Can I join?" Madeleine asked, how do I say no but she was my girlfriend and ugh, this was difficult.
