First of all, thank you soooooooo much for 100k reads😱 That literally blows my mind! And second, sorry for being so MIA lately but writer's block is unbelievably hard to get out of. I did manage to write a bit so here's a little thank you for reading my stories and for all your encouraging comments😊

(What if hiccstrid never announced they were together outside of their families? How long can they hide it? Much longer than you might think.)

"How is it that this house is more welcoming every night," Astrid sighed and flopped back on the bed. After a long day as "General" there was nothing she enjoyed more than putting on fresh clothes and curling up under warm blankets.
"Because each day seems longer than the last one," Hiccup replied wearily. Being Chief was a hard adjustment, but being Chief and dealing with building a new village combined was exhausting. "Well another day and still no one knows." That had become a running joke over the past two years. They pretty much assumed that people were suspicious that they were dating, but it was all too clear they had zero idea they were married.
"I doubt we'll be able to hide it much longer," Astrid laughed, rubbing her stomach. They found out a little over three weeks ago that a little Haddock could be expected in about six months. Since it was still winter, no one was suspicious of Astrid wearing thicker clothes, or a cloak that conveniently hid her stomach. She was just starting to show, but because she'd always been so slim it wouldn't take long for someone to put two and two together.
"You think we should tell them?" Hiccup asked, somewhat surprised.
"Not necessarily right now, but we'll have to soon or someone else will for us." He smiled and rested a hand on her stomach.
"Little one is definitely growing," he agreed. "Any idea if you think it's a boy or a girl?" She sat up a little and looked at her stomach thoughtfully.
"Hmm, it kinda changes every day, but lately I've really been thinking it's a girl." That made Hiccup smile even wider. He wanted it to be a girl so badly and she knew it. Despite the fact that it was likely to be a boy, she hoped it was a girl just to see his interaction with her.
"Do you really think it's a girl or are you just saying that because you know that's what I'm hoping for?" He asked skeptically.
"What it can't be both?" She teased. "I like seeing you happy, plus I really do think it could be a girl. My mom said she was super sick all the time when she was pregnant with me, but your mom said she was hardly ever sick with you. Apparently the more sick you are, the more likely it is that it's a girl."
"Well you definitely have the sick thing covered," Hiccup replied, a little sadness in his voice. He hated seeing her so miserable all the time, but it wouldn't be long before those days were over.
"That's the understatement of the century," she agreed. "I'm surprised no one has started getting suspicious of me leaving all the time. Last week there was one time when I barely made it out of the building before I lost it."
"I'm really glad that this part of your pregnancy is almost over," Hiccup said. "I hate seeing you get sick all the time and knowing I can't fix it." Astrid scooted herself closer and snuggled her head into the crook of his neck.
"You know you're cute when you're worried," she said and kissed his cheek. "I know you would take it all away if you could, and that helps more than you realize. Besides, it's almost over, then you'll get to deal with my crazy mood swings."
"Oh lucky me," Hiccup replied sarcastically.

"Uh Hiccup?" Astrid called downstairs. "We have a problem."
Hiccup came upstairs to see what was wrong, but once he was there he didn't need to ask.
"I take it, it's time to spill the secret?" he asked, trying his best not to laugh since Astrid's emotions had been all over the place in recent days.
"Ya think?" Astrid replied and pointed to the shirt that only half covered her stomach. "I'll be lucky to make it out of the house without everyone asking a million and one questions." She dug around until she found a shirt that she usually wore to sleep in, but now it just barely fit over her stomach. "It's a good thing it's still cool outside so I can still wear something to hide it, but we definitely need to make a few announcements today."

And further surprise, there will be a part 2 so if you want to hear what the village thinks about their secret, keep an eye out for that. Also it will explain exactly how they got away with hiding their relationship for so long because I know it's not explained in here. I promise it's explained perfectly in my head, it just didn't make it into this first part😆
