Stormy Night

I wrote this long before httyd3 came out so Isaac and Ember are the kids I gave Hiccup and Astrid.  In this one, Isaac is 18 months old and Ember is 4 months old.

It was a stormy night on Berk.  One of the worst storms of the year.  Though most people were sleeping through it.  Included in those people were Hiccup and Astrid.  They had two small children, so getting good sleep wasn't a common thing.  However, the storm had actually helped them sleep better.  Everything was fine until a huge clap of thunder was heard.  They both woke up immediately and fully alert.
"You get Ember, and I'll get Isaac,"  Astrid told her husband quickly.  They both got up and went to take care of the now screaming babies.  Astrid went to Isaac's little room that was right next to theirs and picked him up.
"I know, the thunder scared you, sweetie,"  she said gently and rubbed his back.  "Mommy's right here.  I won't let anything hurt you."  She grabbed his blanket and night fury toy before taking him back with her to her room.  They didn't let him sleep with them often, but this was definitely one of the exceptions.
Hiccup, meanwhile, had been attempting to calm down his crying daughter.  He rocked her gently and spoke to her softly.  Just hearing his voice made her quiet a little.  She was definitely a daddy's girl.
"Did the thunder scare my little princess?"  he asked and kissed her head.  She opened her eyes for a minute before snuggling back against him again.  He smiled and held her closer.  When she came into the world, she quickly stole his heart.  Everyone on Berk knew how close the family was, and they knew how much he loved his daughter.
Astrid came back in with Isaac and couldn't help but smile when she saw her husband holding their daughter.  She went and sat beside him, continuing to calm her son.  He looked over and saw Hiccup and immediately reached for him.  The two laughed and switched around the babies.  Astrid looked down at her daughter and was met by her beautiful sea foam green eyes.  A perfect mixture of blue and green.  Some people said she looked like her mother, while others adamantly said she looked just like Hiccup.  But to Astrid, she looked like both of them.  She would have darker blonde hair, and of course you already know about her eyes.  The little girl squirmed a little and began to cry again, but not because of the storm.
"Uh oh,"  Astrid said with a slight chuckle.  "I think someone's hungry."  Hiccup just laughed as Ember kicked impatiently.  "Hold on, I'm working on it."  Astrid told her and laughed.  Soon she had everything situated and Ember was happy again.
"She's determined,"  Hiccup said still laughing a little.  "Just like her mother."  Astrid smiled and looked down at her baby girl.  He leaned over and kissed her head.  Isaac however had fallen back asleep.  Hiccup gently put him down between them and put his blanket over him.  He didn't stir.  After a little while, Ember was fed, then Hiccup changed her and put her back in her crib.  Astrid was already back in bed, and Isaac was snuggled against her.  Hiccup climbed in and rested his hand on his son.  Soon everyone was asleep again, all safe and happy.  Well, until Ember woke up again with needs to be met.  Hiccup got up with her so Astrid could sleep longer.
"What do you want?"  he asked her gently and picked her up.  She smiled at him and gurgled happily.  "Did you just want some attention?"  He laughed quietly and went back to bed.  He laid her carefully next to Isaac and made sure his blanket didn't cover her.
"Goodnight, princess,"  he told her quietly and kissed her little hand.  He lay back and looked beside him.  He could see his wife, his son, and his daughter all close to him.
"I love you,"  he whispered to them.
"I love you too,"  Astrid replied which surprised him, since he thought she was asleep. "Is she okay?"
"She's fine.  She just wanted to join the fun,"  he replied.  He reached over and grabbed Astrid's hand.  She smiled and closed her eyes, completely content.  She could feel her son breathing against her, she could see her baby girl sleeping soundly and held her husband's hand.  Perfect.

Even though it's not canonically accurate anymore, I'm still really happy with how this one turned out overall.  I hope you guys are enjoying these one shots and I am still working on the long story, but I like to have a lot ready before I start posting any of it.  If you follow my Instagram, I'll have a story starting there very soon.
