The young Haddock family was finally back home after the long, stressful meeting. Zephyr had never left her parents and they never forced her to. When they told everyone what happened, to say they were angry was an understatement. The entire village loved Zephyr and the thought of someone hurting her made them ready to go to war. Thankfully Hiccup was able to assure them that it was unnecessary since she was never hurt. That night, Hiccup and Astrid stayed in her room until she fell asleep before quietly going back to their bedroom.
"That might have been the hardest week of my life," Astrid said and sat down, rubbing her stomach.
"Agreed," Hiccup said and flopped back beside her. "You feeling okay?" She nodded and lay back with a sigh.
"The baby's getting bigger and bigger and moves a lot more than Zeph did," she said and laughed a little but winced when she felt a swift kick.
"I think we're going to have a little warrior on our hands," Hiccup said and put his hands on her stomach. Almost instantly he felt a strong kick. "Yep, definitely going to take after you." Once the baby calmed down they were able to fall asleep. That didn't last long though because three hours later Zephyr started screaming for them. They both jumped up and ran to see what was wrong.
"Hey hey it's okay, we're right here," Hiccup said and picked her up. She sobbed and held onto him tightly, with Astrid rubbing her back gently.
"Don't let them take me, Daddy!" She cried. Hiccup and Astrid exchanged a worried look.
"It's okay Zephyr, we're not going to let them take you," Astrid said and took her into her arms. They walked back into their room and tried to calm her down.
"Please don't leave," Zephyr begged and looked up at them.
"We're not going anywhere," Hiccup said and brushed her hair away from her face. "Come lay down." She nodded and snuggled in between them, still sniffling.
"Do you want Mommy to stay with you tomorrow?" Astrid asked her gently. Zephyr nodded and hugged her. She pulled back abruptly and Astrid burst out laughing.
"What happened?" Hiccup asked, and looked at Zephyr's surprised expression.
"The baby kicked her and it startled her. That's your baby brother or sister trying to make you feel better, Zeph." The little girl stared at her mom's stomach, still not quite understanding that there was a baby growing inside her. Hiccup gently took her hands and placed them on Astrid's stomach. After a few minutes, the baby kicked. Zephyr looked up at him and smiled.
"Isn't that cool, Zeph?" He asked her. She nodded and kissed her stomach which made her parents smile.
"You're going to be such a good big sister," Astrid said and ran a hand through her auburn hair. Zephyr listened to her baby brother or sister and soon started to drift off to sleep. When they were sure that she was asleep, Hiccup gently lifted her up and put her in between them.
"What did we do to deserve her?" Astrid said softly and stared at Zephyr sleeping peacefully.
"I have no idea," Hiccup said and smiled. One thing was for sure though, they would do everything in their power to keep her safe.
