Wanda POV-
Nat and Y/N go shot for shot but my aim is terrible. I am lucky to make a shot and hit the board. "Fuck," I set the gun down in front of me and take a step back. I place my hands behind my head as I stare down at my mark sheet. I only hit the board twice.
"Hey," Y/N sets her gun down and pulls her soundproof headphones down to around her neck. "You okay?" She walks over to me and grabs my hands and pulls them back down to my sides lightly. I think she can see I am getting frustrated.
"I just can't get it. I can barely hit the board and mine is so much closer than yours or Nats. What am I doing wrong?" Nat is still firing off shot after shot at the corner of the range. Y/N looks down at our hands as she interlocks our fingers. "Take a deep breath. You are working yourself up, babe."
She lifts her head up suddenly with a worried look in her wide eyes. "Babe?" I let out a small laugh. "Was it too much, too soon? It felt like the right thing to say." Y/N cocks her head to the side and shuts her eyes. She forces a closed mouth smile waiting for me to respond. "I like it."
She gives my hands a small squeeze as she opens her eyes. "Well then, babe," she holds out the word with a huge smile on her face, "let me show you how to shoot better." She takes my hand and guides me back over the wooden ledge. "Just trust me." I nod my head. "I can do that."
We finish shooting and all go our separate ways. Y/N heads towards the lab, Nat heads towards Steve who is in the living room, and I head to my room.
I collapse down onto my bed and fold my hands across my stomach. By the end of our shooting practice, I was actively hitting the target, not bullseye, but I was hitting the board at least. Y/N broke it down and taught me how to breathe out when I shoot to prevent my arm from moving as much when I was aiming. It fixed most of my issues.
The sun is starting to go down. My windows look out to the side of the property. You can mostly just see trees but if you get really close to the windows and follow the building lines around, you can see the water.
I love the view, especially at night. Stark built the facility far enough away that there aren't a massive amount of lights so you can see the stars clearly. I don't think there will be many stars tonight though. There are huge storm clouds rolling in that are blocking the view.
I normally love being by myself in my room but not right now. It is too quiet. I've had Y/N's company for the past couple of days minus sleeping so I can feel the void of her not being here.
I sit up on my bed and push off towards my bathroom. A quick shower then I can go make dinner for everyone like I used to.
Y/N POV-
I quickly stop by my room to remove the bulletproof bodysuit then head into the lab. Stark pulled most of the parts and tools out that I need for the fingerprint scanner. It doesn't take me too long to get the bulk of it built. I pick up the handgun Stark left for me and check that there is in fact no bullets inside it. I drop out the clip and inspect every part of it. It is habit.
One of the first things my Dad taught me was to always check if a gun is loaded when it is given to you. We used to compete to see who could take a 9mm handgun apart first and then put it back together. It really helped me become more familiar with the ins and outs of most weapons. We would practice with everything but I always loved the smaller handguns.
I look up to the ceiling and let out a shaky breath. Thinking about them still brings tears to my eyes. Especially since it will have been one year since Mom died on Friday. Dad was a couple weeks later. I need to go visit their graves again.
I wipe away at my eyes briefly before picking up the soldering iron. I start attaching the small wires I have left to the chip. I mark where my thumb rests on the handgun and then begin attaching the sensor.
