A Blinding Light

Wanda POV-

Y/N's eyes are locked on me as the machine gets louder. Her grip on the handrails of the seat in the machine have left her knuckles white. Her jaw clenches shut and her eyes close as a light fills the small chamber of the machine.

Hayde looks over his shoulder at Y/N before turning to the computer, "Ten more seconds!" The machine is loud. Stark has the garage doors shut so the noise is reverberating around the room and off the cars.

Hayde begins to count down from five as I hear her scream begin. The light is too bright in the machine to really be able to see her but I can hear her. My chest tightens as Hayde gets to three, two, then one. It begins to whir down and the light fades away.

I make my way over to the machine and unhook the latch to lift the door. Hayde and Stark stand back and let me see her first. I push the door up and can finally see her face again. "Hey, Y/N, talk to me." Her head is resting on her shoulder and her eyes are shut.

"Y/N, wake up." I undo the restraints on her wrists and grab ahold of her hands. "Baby, wake up, please." I can feel her pulse pushing through as I move my hand to her wrist. A couple tears escape my eyes as I wait. Her head finally rolls forward and then up to normal as she forces her eyes open.

She tightens her grip on my hand, now no longer limp. Hayde steps up behind me to speak to Y/N, "Your memories are going to start to come back within the day. Don't try and stop them or you might reblock them." Y/N nods her head then tries to push out of the chair. She's still unsteady.

"I got you." I throw her arm around my shoulders and wrap my arm around her waist to help her stand. She pulls off each of the sensors and hands them back to Hayde. "Can I go lie down now?" Stark and Hayde both nod their heads.

Stark takes a step forward towards us, "Wanda, will you keep an eye on her?" He knows I will. "Yeah, of course." Stark's attitude towards Y/N is weird. He is soft towards her in a fatherly way but he tries to hide it. I know he cares for all of us his ego just prevents him from showing it all the time.

Y/N and I hobble back to her room. Nat joined us and went to Y/N's other side when she saw us. We lower her down onto the bed and I help her get under the covers. Her eyes begin to flutter closed almost immediately.

I motion for Nat to follow me out of the room. "What the hell happened down there?" I lean my back against the wall and then slide down it to sit on the floor. I push up the hoodie sleeves and rest my elbows on my knees putting my head in my hands. "Stark and Hayde adjusted the machine to give her back her memories."

Nat sits down next to me against the wall. "Did it work?" I let out a shaky exhale. "We won't know until later. Hayde said memories will begin to flood her brain today." I look up to the ceiling and will the tears to stay where they are.

"Are you okay?" I lower my chin and turn to look at Nat. "Not really," I can't hold it back any longer. Nat opens her arms as I fall into her. "Shh, she's going to be okay. She is so strong, Wanda." I hold onto her letting the tears fall freely. "Her scream just, it just," Nat squeezes me a little tighter. "I know. I know it did."

It takes me a little bit to calm down. Peter comes walking into the hallway with a slice of cake for me. "Here, I thought this might help." He hands me the plate then sits down across from us in the hallway. "Thanks, Peter."

Peter and Nat make small talk to keep my mind off Y/N until we hear movement coming from her room. I set the empty plate down and crack open the door to see Y/N begin to thrash around. I push myself off the floor and make my way over to her.

I kneel down onto the bed and try to wake her up. "Y/N," I grab ahold of her wrist but her thrashing is getting worse. She throws her arm out to the side and smacks her hand into the corner of the side table slicing it open. "Nat, help me. Peter, there is a first aid kit in the bathroom."
