Hydra Coding Gone Wrong

Wanda POV-

After we finish eating, Y/N and I walk with the recruits back to our rooms. We pause outside our door for her to speak, "So again, you guys have the rest of the afternoon off to do whatever. Just don't get into any trouble and come get me if you need something." They nod their heads and begin to disperse towards their rooms.

Kali and Elliot both stay put wavering on their feet. "Can we look at the file you mentioned?" Y/N scans her forearm and pushes open the door. "Come on in." Nico and Harlee also stop turning back towards us. "Can we come too?" I nod my head waving them to us, "Of course."

Thankfully, Y/N and I are now in the habit of making our bed since we have had guests in our room twice today. Kali takes the folder first then lays down on the ground with it to look it over by the window. Elliot sits down next to her glancing over her shoulder.

Nico and Harlee settle for sitting over by the twins. Y/N rests with her back against our headboard, and I sit down in the middle of the bed. She opens up the folder on her lap of the machine that Dr. Trager designed for Drew and her.

I pick up the tv remote and click the power button. "Any preferences on a show?" I look around to everyone who just shrugs. "Just put on our usual, babe." I click into the next episode and sit back resting my head on Y/N's shoulder.

A comfortable vocal silence overtakes all of us as we enjoy the calm in the room, the only noise coming from an occasional flip of a sheet of paper or the tv show. Kali passes off the file to the other recruits each of them taking their time to examine the information.

After a while, Nico speaks up, "Do you know what kind of abilities we will get?" Y/N looks up from her folder but glances in my direction shrugging her shoulders. "I don't think so? Specialist Grace said they ran the same experiment on one person who successfully developed their powers but she didn't say what their ability was. I think it all depends on your body."

Nico has asked the most questions about the experiment compared to the rest of them. He nods his head looking back down at the folder in his hands deep in thought. Harlee motions to Y/N's folder, "What is that one you're holding?"

Y/N closes the folder and leans off the bed to give it to Harlee. "It is a machine that Dr. Trager designed to allow me to heal Drew without taking on the physical damage. They are going to have me try and heal Drew around the same time as your experiment."

Nico reads over Harlee's shoulder at the schematics of the machine. His face scrunches together as he reads. "Something wrong, Nico?" He shakes his head confused. "No, well yes. Just the code number they assigned for this machine is outdated. Hydra doesn't use this coding for their experiments anymore. They stopped decades ago."

He flips open the file on the recruits' experiment and compares them side by side. "Yep, see here," he stands up walking over to us. "This code for the experiment is ten digits long with a three letter entry code for the category type." He hands us that file.

"And for the machine, it is eight digits long with a two letter entry code. Hydra transitioned off these codes because there weren't enough variations. They kept running into problems." He points to the two differences in the files to show us. Y/N looks up to him, "Where did you learn this?"

He takes a small step back, "We had to take a Hydra history class before we graduated. We also were taught how to read the code." We look back and forth between the files. He is right. The machine's file code doesn't match the experiments file code if that is considered the correct one. Y/N and I wouldn't have caught that or even known to look for it.

"That's weird for sure. Maybe whoever typed it up used the wrong formatting guide. I'm sure it's nothing." I place my hand on Y/N's leg lightly squeezing for us to stop talking about it. She looks up from the files at me then shuts them setting them down next to us on the bed. "Yeah, I'm sure it's nothing."
