"Kion, snap out of it!" Fuli called desperately as the lion's body jerked in uncontrollable spasms. His eyes were shut tight and he grunted and groaned. "Kion! Kion!"
One comforting touch to the forehead and all went dark.

Kion's eyes widened as Fuli lunged for his neck. He no longer saw the caring, loving emerald eyes of his best friend... and maybe future mate. What he saw was menacing yellow eyes glowing through the emerald green.
This was not Fuli.
But having been previously beaten by Mwepesi and the rest of Swift's Clan, he was too weak to move out of the way.
She lunged for his neck, using her strength to pick him up and shake his neck wildly. Consumed by fury and a need for justice, Fuli didn't realize she was severely hurting her so-called friend.
By the time she had stopped, she had damaged Kion's breathing airway so badly it might never heal completely.
Guilt flooded Fuli seeing the scene from the victim's perspective. But if what Kion saw from his point of view was true...
