The Fugly Scarecrow

We were in the Jorgeson General Store asking if they had seen them and Kat decided to look around the store.
"You sure they didn't stop for gas or something?" I asked as Harley showed the pictures to Stacy.
"Nope, don't remember 'em. You said they were friends of yours?" Harley asked making me give a nod.
"That's right."
Soon another girl came downstairs carrying some boxes and came straight for us.
"Did the guy have a tattoo?" She asked
"Yes, he did."
She put the boxes down on the counter and looked at the picture of Vince before turning to the older couple.
"You remember? They were just married."
"You're right. They did stop for gas. Weren't here more than ten minutes." Harley added.
'They must be hiding something.'
"You remember anything else?"
"I told 'em how to get back to the Interstate. They left town."
"Could you point me in that Same direction?"
"Sure." He stated before giving me the same directions as them.
Just as he finished Kat came back and gave me a thumbs up.
"Thanks for the help." I told before we left.
"No problem."
As we began to head to Baby Kat spoke up.
"That guy definitely didn't like you."
"This one of your hearing things?"
"Na. I could just tell he wanted you gone."
"Well come on. We gotta do some driving Kat."
"Okie."
'She's great.'

We were driving past the orchard the town has when we heard a noise coming from the backseat.
"What the hell?"
"New ring tone?" Kat asked as I pulled over and reached into the bag.
I pulled the EMF meter out of the bag to see it was beeping frantically as we were sitting across from the orchard.
"Investigate the creepy orchard?" She asked.
"Guess we should."

We were walking around the orchard and I made sure Kat was close to me in case this went south real quick, when we saw a scarecrow. We walk over to it and I look it over.
"Dude, you fugly." I stated making Kat chuckle.
I noticed the sickle in his hand and that there was a design on the same arm. I walked over to get a ladder from a nearby tree and climbed to the top of it when I got back to the scarecrow, so I was now eye level with it. I slowly moved the clothing to reveal more of the design and recognised it when I did. I got the flyer with Vince on it and compared them to see they were the exact same, making me look towards the scarecrow.
"Nice tat." I stated.
"Dean.... I don't want to be here anymore."
"Yeah, let's go. I got more questions to ask them." I told getting down and putting the ladder back where it was before leaving with Kat.

I pulled the car up at the gas station, to see the same younger girl from before was standing by the pumps.
"You're back." She told as I got out and moved over to the same side she was on.
"Never left."
"Still looking for your friends?" She asked making me nod.
"You mind fillin' her up there, Emily?" I asked after noticing her nameplate necklace and she grabbed the pump to fill Baby up. "So, you grew up here?"
"I came here when I was thirteen. I lost my parents. Car accident. My aunt and uncle took me in."
"They're nice people."
"Everybody's nice here."
"So, what, it's the, uh, perfect little town?" I joked only for her to smile.
"Well, you know, it's the boonies. But I love it. I mean, the towns around us, people are losing their homes, their farms. But here, it's almost like we're blessed." She told making me give a slight nod.
"Hey, you been out to the orchard? You seen that scarecrow?"
"Yeah, it creeps me out." She told making me laugh.
"Freaks Kat out as well." I stated before she popped her head out of the window.
"It's spooky."
"Whose is it?" I asked making her give a shrug.
"I don't know. It's just always been there."
"Hey John." Kat called making me move to talk to her.
"Yeah."
"Red van wasn't there earlier." She told making me look to see she was correct.
I gave a nod towards the van making her look towards it before back to us.
"That your aunt and uncle's?" I asked making her shake her head.
"Customer. Had some car troubles."
"It's not a couple, is it? A guy and a girl?" I asked making her nod.
"Mmhmm."
I looked towards Kat to see we both shared the same concerned look.
