(Dean p.o.v)
I parked outside of the community college and began to get a bad gut feeling.
"Kat, I want you to stay here and watch the car."
"What?! Why?!"
"I just have a bad gut feeling. My uncle Harold and Dic used to say, 'Gut instincts are what your brain is trying to tell you when not even it knows how to say it.'. I feel like something could happen and I want you to be safe." I told making her nod.
"I promise I'll wait here." She told making me smile.
"Thank you. I promise I'll be back as soon as I can." I told before leaving Baby.I was walking with the colleges professor in the college and hopefully it wasn't going to take too long.
"It's not every day I get a research question on Pagan ideology." He told
"Yeah, well, call it a hobby."
"But you said you were interested in local lore?"
"Mmhmm."
"I'm afraid Indiana isn't really known for its Pagan worship." He stated.
"Well, what if it was imported? You know, like the Pilgrims brought their religion over. Wasn't a lot of this area settled by immigrants?" I questioned making him give a nod.
"Well, yeah."
"Like that town near here, Burkitsville. Where are their ancestors from?"
"Uh, northern Europe, I believe, Scandinavia." He told
'Now we are getting somewhere.'
"What could you tell me about those Pagan gods?"
"Well, there are hundreds of Norse gods and goddesses."
"I'm actually looking for one. Might live in an orchard." I stated.
We were now in his college classroom and he put a large book down on a table and opened it so we could search for the one I needed.
"Woods god, hm? Well, let's see." He told as he began to lead through some of the pages.
I soon noticed on one of the pages that there was a picture of a scarecrow on a post surrounded by farmers in a field.
"Wait, wait, wait. What's that one?" I asked making him stop.
"Oh, that's not a woods god, per se." He told making me begin to read it.
"The V-Vanir?" I questioned making him give a nod. "The Vanir were Norse gods of protection and prosperity, keeping the local settlements safe from harm. Some villages built effigies of the Vanir in their fields. Other villages practiced human sacrifice. One male, and one female." I read before pointing towards the picture. "Kind of looks like a scarecrow, huh?"
"I suppose."
"This particular Vanir that's energy sprung from the sacred tree?" I read making him nod again.
"Well, Pagans believed all sorts of things were infused with magic."
"So what would happen if the sacred tree was torched? You think it'd kill the god?" I asked making him laugh.
"Son, these are just legends we're discussing."
"Oh, of course. Yeah, you're right. Listen, thank you very much." I told giving his hand a shake.
"Glad I could help." He told.
I walked to the classroom door, but when I opened it the sheriff hit me in the head with the end of his rifle knocking me out.
