~ (Episode 16: Shadow) ~

(Kat p.o.v)

Dean stopped Baby across the street from the apartments that had our new case was at. We got out and we're wearing employee outfits of the alarm system company that the victim had for her place. Dean got the toolbox out from the trunk of Baby and I got the clipboard that I filled out with random information and we made our way to the apartment.
"All right, Dean. This is the place." Sam told.
"You know, I've gotta say Dad and me did just fine without these stupid costumes. I feel like a high school drama dork." Dean informed before smiling. "What was that play that you did? What was it – Our Town. Yeah, you were good, it was cute."
"Oh I wish I could have seen that." Kat added.
"Look, you wanna pull this off or not?" Sam asked.
"I'm just sayin', these outfits cost hard-earned money, okay?"
"Whose?" We both questioned.
"Ours. You think credit card fraud is easy?" He questioned.
"Weird life I've gotten into." I stated.

We walked into the apartment of the victim along with the landlady since she let us in.
"Thanks for lettin' us look around." Sam told.
"Well, the police said they were done with the place, so...." she trailed off slightly as the two moved further into the room and I noticed the chain was broken with Dean since he closed the door.
'Strange.'
We followed after Sam and entered the living room to see the spots of blood that covered the carpet.
"You guys said you were with the alarm company?" The landlady asked.
"That's right." Dean told.
"Well, no offense, but your alarm's about as useful as boobs on a man." She informed making the boys exchange a look.
"That is an accurate comparison." I agreed.
"Well, that's why we're here. To see what went wrong and stop it from happening again." Dean told.
"Now, ma'am, you found the body?" Sam asked.
"Yeah."
"Right after it happened?" I questioned making her shake her head.
"No. Few days later. Meredith's work called—she hadn't shown up. I knocked on the door. That's when I noticed the smell." She told.
"Any windows open? Any sign of break-in?" Dean asked.
"No, windows were locked, front door was bolted. Chain was on the door, we had to cut it just to get in."
"And the alarm was still on?" Me and Dean asked as one.
"Like I said, bang-up job your company's doin'."
"Mmhmm. You see any overturned furniture, broken glass, signs of struggle?" He asked making her shake her head.
"Everything was in perfect condition—except Meredith."
"And what condition was Meredith in?" Sam asked.
"Meredith was all over. In pieces. The guy who killed her must have been some kind of a whackjob. But I tell you, if I didn't know any better, I'd have said a wild animal did it." She told making me and Dean look at each other and Sam.
"Ma'am, do you mind if we take some time? Give this place a once-over?" Sam asked.
"Oh, well, go right ahead. Knock yourself out." She told before leaving.
"She seems lovely."
Dean put his toolbox down and removed the EMF meter that was stored in there.
"So, a killer walks in and out of the apartment—no weapons, no prints, nothin'." Dean questioned.
"I'm tellin' ya, the minute I found that article, I knew this was our kind of gig." Sam told before the EMF meter began to beep frantically.
"I think I agree with you."
'Something feels off here.'
"So, you talked to the cops?" Sam asked Dean.
"Uh, yeah." He told with a smirk. "I spoke to Amy, a, uh, charming, perky officer of the law."
"Yeah? What'd you find out?" We both asked.
"Well, she's a Sagittarius. She loves tequila, I mean—wow. Oh, and she's got this little tattoo—"
"Dean!" Sam slightly shouted cutting him off.
"What? Yeah. Uh, nothin' we don't already know. Except for one thing they're keepin' out of the papers."
"Hm?" The two of us questioned.
"Meredith's heart was missing."
"Her heart?" We asked stunned from it.
"Yeah. Her heart."
"Who the hell wants a heart?" I questioned.
"So, what do you think did it to her?" Sam asked.
"Well, the landlady said it looked like an animal attack. Maybe it was—werewolf?" Dean suggested.
"No, no werewolf, the lunar cycle's not right. Plus, if it was a creature, it would've left some kind of trace. It's probably a spirit." Sam stated as Dean observed the blood on the carpet and seemed to notice something.
"See if you can find any masking tape around." He told making us do so.
We watched Dean use masking tape to connect each pool of blood. What he was done, the piece of tape and it formed an unusual symbol on the carpet.
"Ever see that symbol before?" Sam asked.
"Never." Dean told.
"It's not something I'd had ever seen before either." I added.
"Me neither." Sam told making us all exchange a look.
