~ (Episode 21: Salvation.) ~
(Kat p.o.v)
Our room was covered head to toe on information about the demon, like weather charts, hieroglyphics, pictures, articles, written notes, a shelf full of books and more. I was sitting on one of the motel beds we had while John was at the desk that was covered in paper and the Colt was placed in front of him, and Sam was leaning against the counter as Dean paced back and forth.
"So this is it. This is everything I know. Look, our whole lives we been searching for this demon right? Not a trace, just...nothing. Until about a year ago. For the first time I picked up a trail." John explained.
"And that's when you took off." Dean stated making their father nod.
"Yeah. That's right. The demon must have come out of hiding, or hibernation."
"All right so what's this trail you found?" Dean asked.
"It starts in Arizona, then New Jersey, California. Houses burned down to the ground. It's going after families, just like it went after us."
"Families with infants?"
"Yeah. The night of the kid's six-month birthday."
"I was six months old that night?" Sammy asked.
"Exactly six months."
"So basically, this demon is going after these kids for some reason. The same way it came for me? So Mom's death...Jessica. It's all because of me?"
"We don't know that Sam." Dean told.
"Oh really? Cause I'd say we're pretty damn sure Dean."
"For the last time, what happened to them was not your fault." Dean told in frustration.
"Right. It's not my fault but it's my problem." Sam argued.
"No it's not your problem it's our problem!"
"Stop fighting!" I exclaimed making the room shake a little as John stood up to deal with his bickering sons.
"Okay. That's enough!" John shouted silencing them. "Everyone takes a breath and calms down."
"So why's he doing it. What does he want?" Sam questioned.
"Look I wish I had more answers, I do. I've always been one step behind it. Look, I've never gotten there in time to save..." John explained before stopping and looked down with an unhappy look.
"All right so how do we find it..before it hits again?" Dean questioned.
"There's signs. It took me a while to see the pattern but it's there in the days before these fires signs crop up in an area. Cattle deaths, temperature fluctations, electrical storms. And then I went back and checked...and..."
"These things happened in Lawrence?" Dean asked making their father nod.
"A week before your mother died. And in Palo Alto...before Jessica. And these signs, they're starting again."
"Where?" Sam asked.
"Salvation Iowa."
'Think Roxy is hiding out around there for now. Might be able to see her.'We were following behind Johns truck on a misty road. Sadly I was stuck on the phone with my mother again.
"Mum, I don't wanna go on a date with Lance. I've been over this with you countless times."
"Lance is a good boy."
"Lance is a bloody wanker."
"Do not use those sorts of languages. Especially when talking about him. You know he made detective recently."
"Good for him."
"I'm just saying. He would do you well in support your endeavours."
"I'm not gonna marry Lance mum. He's a tosser."
"He is not and don't use that language."
"Mum, he never got along with Roxane. That's a no brainer."
"Roxane is a criminal."
"Again, she's doing what she loves."
"And yet you're the one who got kicked out of university."
"1) she never went to Uni that I am aware of, and 2) it's still bullshit why I was kicked out."
"Well, if you came home....."
"I'm not coming home any time soon."
"Katie...."
"Sorry mum. Your breaking up. I'll call back later!" I told before hanging up. "Seriously that lady has got issues."
"Who's Lance?" Dean questioned.
"Dude I went to school with. Massive prick, and small dick energy from him." I admitted.
We kept driving for a few more minutes after that, only to see John quickly pull off to the side, making Dean copy. Before Baby came to a complete stop we all jumped out and I could already sense we didn't have good news.
"God damn it!" John exclaimed shocking us.
"What is it?" Dean asked.
"Son of a bitch."
"What is it!" Dean shouted so their father snapped out of it.
"I just got a call from Caleb." He told.
"Is he okay?" Dean questioned since it was now very clear that something has gone wrong.
"He's fine. Jim Murphy's dead." He told.
'Wow he really had his law do him in..... oh I am so going to hell.'
"Pastor Jim? How?" Sam asked as we all took the information in.
"His throat was slashed. He bled out. Caleb said they found traces of sulfur at Jim's place."
"A demon." Dean told making John nod. "The Demon?"
"I don't know. Could be he just got careless, he slipped up. Maybe the demon knows we're getting close." He listed.
"What do we do?" Dean asked.
"Now we act like every second counts. There's two hospitals and a health centre in this county. We split up, cover more ground. I want records. I want a list of every infant that's going to be six months old in the next week."
"Dad that could be dozens of kids. How do we know which one's the right one?" Sam pointed out.
"We check em all that's how. You got any better ideas?" John questioned.
"No sir."
John gave a nod to us before we turned around and headed to Baby.
"I can't keep doing this!" John told making me look to see he was leaning on his trunk.
'Sometimes I wish I wasn't psychic. I hate reading peoples minds.'
I climbed into Baby and Dean stopped at his door to talk to their father.
"Dad?"
"Yeah. It's Jim. You know, I can't..." he told with an upset tone before stopping as his face hardened. "This ends, now. I'm ending it. I don't care what it takes."
The two got back into their cars before pulling back onto the road, speeding off to our new distance.
