"I'm just asking you to consider it."
"I did, and my answer is no."
"You thought about it for all of thirty seconds," Sierra objects. Almost breathless as she urges her legs to match his naturally quick pace.
"It's not something that requires much consideration."
"You know what?" she pops the question once Grayson arrives at the bottom of the staircase, patiently peering up at her. "Sometimes you can be such an aー"
Without watching where she's going, her foot slips off the bottom step. Strong hands react swiftly to grip her waist before she falls and injures herself. She's lifted up and spun around, soon placed safely on the ground with a shocked gasp tumbling from her.
"I think I'll keep the insult to myself." She adjusts her shirt that had raised from the sudden contact.
"Fuck sake." The couple step away when Kaden strolls into the house. "Hope would you come get this thing away from me?" he yells. "Keep barking and you're going in the oven."
Bunny sits quietly at his feet, head tilting.
"You will do no such thing." Hope scoops him up after making her way over. "Don't listen to him he's just grumpy."
"Yeah, I am. So go away." He lightly shoos them off and Hope tuts, taking Bunny upstairs to her room. He spares a glance at the couple still stood by the staircase. "What are you two looking guilty for?"
"What?" she responds quickly.
"Did I interrupt something?"
"No." She almost laughs but one look at his face and she swallows it. "I tripped and he caught me." He hums and sits on the couch. "Why? Still suspicious of us? Don't tell me you're still questioning whether I'm a cheater. I'm not going behind your back with your own brother."
"Just drop it."
She sends Grayson a look and he nods, wandering over. "You read newspapers now?"
"Didn't until today." He slaps it onto the coffee table. Grayson sighs and sits beside him, staring at the front page while his brother continues.
"We've pissed off a lotta people. Most of them know they can't get to us, even if they could they know they wouldn't survive. But they know they can take out our guys. If that happens we're fucked. We'll be left with nothing. No one."
"You know that won't happen."
"Do I?"
"Our guys know what they're doing, we wouldn't have picked them otherwise."
"We've already lost ten of them this week and we're only halfway through. It could easily be ten this week and a hundred next week."
"Don't make me knock some sense into you." Grayson tosses the paper onto the table. "It wouldn't get that dire and you know it. I can go give them a pep talk to boost their confidence if it'll make you happy."
"Don't patronise me."
"Then stop being an idiot."
