Stretching her arms above her head and pulling a face at the small click in her sore shoulders, Sierra pauses outside of the doors upon hearing deep voices.
"It won't work," Kaden declares with his hands on his hips. "He won't just agree to this. He'll want something in return. He always does."
"Could bring your girl."
"Not an option."
"Just thinking out loud."
"I don't want her anywhere near him."
"If it encourages him to side with us wouldn't it be worthwhile?"
"He's a trickster, just like me. This won't be straightforward, he'll offer us a deal we won't want to take. We should consider someone elseー literally anyone else."
"We've already made the call. He's expecting us tonight. Too late to turn back now." Grayson perches on the edge of the table and languidly twirls a knife.
"Let me help." Their heads turn when Sierra pushes one of the doors open. "If me being there will help, let me come."
"No. It's too dangerous."
"Everything is dangerous." Her hand slides up to his shoulder. "Besides, I have two big killers on my side don't I?" He looks to Grayson who shrugs a shoulder, not entirely listening.
"He's not the type of guy I want anywhere near you."
"I know, but we have a daughter to think about. If this goes our way we'll have the protection we need and she'll be safe. It's worth a try."
He sighs heavily. "If things head south you get the hell out of there, you hear me?"
"Loud and clear." She kisses his cheek.

When the time arrives, the Romans descend the steps and slip through the underground rave. Eyes scanning the armed men dotted throughout the thumping space.
Bodies fill the dance floor to the brim, heads tipped back and pupils blown from a mixture of drugs and alcohol that hits their systems in blissful waves.
The man with the earpiece gives the brothers a once-over before stepping aside and opening the door. They enter the lavish office, finding the man himself seated behind his desk littered with gold decor.
"Well well." Klaus flashes a grin. Silver canines gleaming under the lights. "I didn't expect to see your faces round here ever again. I must say, I was delighted to receive your call."
"It wasn't a delight on my end," Kaden replies with the utmost honesty.
He hums with a smile, hands clasped together. Expensive gold rings decorating his fingers. "You want protection. Couldn't keep your dogs under control. They turned rabid, turned against you. Now you need my help to put them down."
"We have our guys under control," Grayson corrects snidely. "It's the people they're paying off. We have connections but you have more." It takes everything in him to say it aloud, and it doesn't help when his mouth curls into another patronising smile.
