"Thank you again. I know I've said it a dozen times already but I can't thank you enough. I probably wouldn't have made it out alive if not for you."

Kage tips his head to one side. There's an attempt at a smile. "You should give yourself more credit."

"So should you. Your idea for the necklace was brilliant. You could take it further you know?" Sierra raises her brows suggestively.

He runs his hand along his sharp jaw. "There's a lot of grey area."

"Don't sweep it aside altogether. This could be a business opportunity. You saved my life, maybe you could save more." She shrugs a shoulder. "Never say never."

A dainty hand lays on his arm for only a second before she passes by. In the corner of his vision he watches her figure disappear around a corner, taking the golden aura with her.

"An explosive disguised as a necklace."

Kage tracks the deep voice until cold eyes narrow on the man leant against the opposing wall. His arms are folded but something reflects the light in his grasp.

"Sounds good on paper."

"I'm glad you agree," Kage responds flatly.

"I don't." Grayson twirls the thin, gold capsule between his fingers. The delicate chain wrapped loosely around his fist is dangerously close to snapping.

He doesn't need to stray from his cemented scowl to know what he's toying with.

"She should be wearing that."

"She doesn't need it," he almost grits.

"I saved her life, didn't you hear?"

"Congratulations," he replies monotonously. "Your invention saved her back once. She won't be needing this anymore."

"Keep it. She might need it next time you choose between her life and someone else's."

A wicked smile twists over his lips. He stands tall, taking slow, calculated steps towards the stoic man. He's not immune to his attempts to claw beneath his tough skin, but he can easily disguise his wrath until a more sufficient time.

"She can protect herself."

"I imagine she gained extensive experience with you."

Grayson should abandon being the bigger person and aim straight for the smugness hidden behind his stony facade. Heat creeps up the back of his neck but he refuses to let it reach his face.

"She's the only one who survived."

He paints on a deceptively friendly smile and tucks the necklace into a pocket on his bulletproof vest. Two pats to his solid chest is a mere glimpse of his strength since he rocks backwards.

Kage's steel grey eyes follow him.

Kaden soundlessly enters the bedroom. The curtains have been left open to the moonlight can pour freely into the room, illuminating the couple tucked beneath the sheets. Both of them calm, unsuspecting.
